Round Robin 2009 Begins!

| Our Round Robin leader Odessa asked me to post pictures of all the centers, so here they are! The arrows show the order of rotation. We may post shots throughout the next five months that show some progress, but they'll only be hints, not complete images of the new borders. We don't want to spoil the surprises!!!

| OH no! I got the order wrong on the first picture! I've deleted that one in Photobucket. This should be correct:

| Kate, thank you so much for posting this "progression" picture for us. You've made our blocks look tremendous. What did we do to deserve you? Thank you again, Odessa |

Odessa, I love the circle picture! Vicky~ |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!

| Thanks Vicky. It was so much fun to work on; I was considering doing a "series", one for each season. Then I could change them out. But I don't know if I am quite that crazy .... yet! I have to say, though, I love your center and can't wait to get my hands on it! I have just the perfect fabrics already. My boss would like something like that in his house; he's a big hunter/fisherman. He and a friend went to a dinner and bid on an African Safari trip and won it, so they have 3 years to schedule it. I told him if he bagged an elephant, he could have it stuffed and put it on the front lawn. Now THAT would make a big statement! And Michelle's Carpenter's Wheel is going to be exciting to work on, too. I have been accumulating snowflake fabrics lately so that I could use them in something and now I know why! I also have some beautiful "winter greens" with chickadees and cardinals on them that may work well also. We shall see. Kate's beautiful butterfly is so lovely; I cannot wait until it arrives next month. It should be here right about the time the weather is so drab (dead leaves, drippy/rainy, and no snow yet) and will be a breath of springtime. I just received Marie's block in the mail yesterday and have selected some fabrics to go with it. I am formulating a plan for how to put my round on it, which may involve some Paper Piecing. [PLEASE NOTE: If anyone does use this technique, do not remove the papers until later. I have discovered that if you take them out before you put on the next border, you end up with a wavy mess that you may not be able to control, although I will do my best to keep grainlines as close to "true" as I can.] Now, if only I can figure out exactly where to put the ballerinas on the border I will work on ........ [snicker, snicker, hehehehehe....] Ladies, this is going to be such fun! Let's keep each other updated as we work. I am looking forward to seeing all of your work as they arrive! Odessa |

| I've been trying to be good until I go to the Jacksonville show next Friday, but yesterday I was within a couple miles of my favorite quilt shop so you KNOW I had to stop. Good thing I just happened to have the picture of all the centers with me! |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!

| Odessa, Your center has arrived!!! It is more beautiful in real life and I hope I can do it justice! Vicky~ |

RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!

| Vicky, so glad you like it! I'm sure you'll do just fine on it. Kate, I know what you mean! I had to buy fabrics online to make sure that I had ample selection in my stash to start with when they all arrive. bozogardner, keep watching! there will be periodic updates. And maybe when we're done we'll start another and you can join in! Odessa |

hello I got vicky's center in the mail yesterday, the notebook is a nice touch. I forgot to send a piece of muslin for sigs, I will sent it in a smaller envie, and I will go buy the right pen today for signing. I have changed my plan for vicky's since it is for a young man, I think you will like it. I'm off to joann's(well not till they open he! he! he!) michelle |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
Michelle, I'll be happy to start a label for you. You don't need to mail out the muslin or the pen. Let me know if that's OK. Your center didn't arrive yesterday but I'll be eagerly checking the mailbox today! Kate |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
hello ok Vicky I will hand stich the border, and if you decied you don't like it you can just mach. stich over it. I will start on it today. oh yes Kate could you please put a piece of muslin in for my, thank you so much. I'm such a bonehead sometimes. michelle |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| What a great mail day! I received Michelle's beautiful center and 3 pieces of fabric I ordered for Marie's. And as a plus, one of the 3 fabrics will go perfectly with Michelle's too. I'm always a little apprehensive when ordering material on line that I'm trying to match with something else. I'm not certain it will be exactly the color I expect. But eQuilter.com posts very accurate pictures and these 3 are no exception: they are exactly what I was hoping for and I love them all. Michelle, Your Christmas/Winter block is so pretty! From the picture I didn't realize there were some gold highlights. In person, it's even more charming than the photo shows. Kate (I have a feeling everyone else will get tired of us gushing over one another's blocks, but they'll just have to put up with it. LOL I can't recall the last time quilting was quite this much pure fun! I think it's the surprise factor that makes it such a hoot.) |

Odessa, ---Now, if only I can figure out exactly where to put the ballerinas on the border I will work on ........ ---- ROFLOL!!! Thanks so much for the giggle - hehehehe that would make it TRULY unique LOL I love your block and the picture wheel, very cool! You mentioned paper piecing and not removing the paper before putting the next border on? guess I don't know as much about this quilting thing as I thought. I would have thought it had been forgotten and ripped away... I recieved Kate's block and I am sorry that I haven't had time to post that. My sister was here and she fell in love with it tonight when I opened the package. She wanted to know when I was going to have time to finish it into a quilt for her - she thought it was a late birthday block. I brought my daughter home today after a week in the hospital. She is on 6 different pain med's and we are hoping that the problems will work their way out of her system, although I don't have much faith in that happening. She has a virus that settled in her appendix and as it is rare here in the US, they didn't really know how to treat it. It has infected her liver and lymphnoid, also. The only treatment available was steroids and they cause cancer in 1 out of every 1000. Not an option with the high risk in our family! We have no idea how she even came in contact with it and none of her friends are sick - keeping our fingers crossed and that she will recover soon. We have an appointment on Tuesday and if nothing has changed I will take her to the Children's Hospital on Wednesday. I have 4 home bound days, so I should be able to get the border on and sent out before I either go back to work or go to see if they can find out how to make my baby better. Hope everyone enjoys their weekend! Marie |

| I have my thinking cap on for Odessa and almost bought fabric for it last night but decided I really needed the center with me to make sure the color is right. Vicky~ |

Marie, I'm so sorry your daughter is ill. I'll keep your family in my thoughts and prayers. __________ At the quilt show yesterday I took dozens of pictures of borders! Found some wonderful ideas! Kate |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!

| Wow, Marie, you've really got a lot on your plate right now, don't you? I'm so glad you're able to work on your quilting. I've found that it helps me to take off the burdens and has helped me drop my blood pressure about 30 points! Ahhhh, quilting .... such great stuff! Will keep your little one in our thoughts and prayers. Vicky, fear not! It's fall! Anything "fall" will go with it! |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!

| Well, everyone, I am beginning the process of packing my suitcases for a long-awaited trip to the Upper Peninsula with Dear Hubby this Thursday. You can believe that the folder with our travel directions and hotel reservations has the oval photo of all of our centers. I have every intention of hitting some quilt shops along the way to find just the "right" fabrics that I may be missing to work on each of them as they arrive. I'll be thinking of each of you as I wander up and down the aisles, feeling the fabrics, and imagining what I can use them to do to your quilts .... hmmmmm ........ now I know I've already used ballerinas on Marie's ...... I think perhaps Kate's may well need some robots ..... Vicky's surely will look tons better with bugs, and Michelle's center ......... well, I have something VERY special in mind for her ..... ............ sure do hope I can find all of those in those great neon colors while I'm gone .......... Have fun while I'm gone, ladies. Miss me lots! Odessa |

RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Well, ladies, I can see that you have all been VERY busy in my absence ... while I have been here in the U.P. on vacation, I have been diligently trying to located decent quilt shops somewhat nearby that the hubbs will deign to go to with me. There aren't any in St. Ignace ... if I were to win a lot of $$ at the local casino, I would have to open a shop here to show them all how valuable our art is! I did finally find the one fabric I have been needing to complete my design for Marie's center. I will be starting on it Monday (I think). We have to aget home tomorrow, and unpack, laundry, etc., etc., etc..... I'm surely happy that you are all having as much fun with this little project as I am! Now, where did I put that flourescent purple & green stripe I bought to finish Marie's?????? Odessa |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
Kate, I finally finished yours last night... I had a 'round' put on but it was missing something. I added a little here and a little there and 'ta-da'! I agree with Micyrey - I can't believe how stressed I am adding to someone elses piece! I bet I changed my mind over a dozen times - colors, design, are the stitches okay, take them apart & redo, is it enough, it is to much, hope she likes my idea OH PLEASE let her be happy with it.... I even took it into my local quilt shop to see what they thought! My daughter thinks I have gone crazy but IT IS HARD! I can't wait to see the others but I feel the butterflys building just thinking about the next one. LOL but I can't wait to get my hands on it, I found some more Christmasy fabric that I want to use! Megin is still pretty sick and in alot of pain. I took her to a different doctor in Colorado just for a 2nd opinion. What a waste of time that was! Everyone told me that it was the place to go - they never even took her vitals! As the last Doctor wouldn't give us a referal - I took her to emergency. This is a HUGE hospital and yes they were busy, but we were in and out in 65 minutes! I was very disappointed in them and will not be able to recommend them to anyone. They ask us what was wrong and told me they couldn't do anything for her, sad group of professionals. Enough of that... I took her back to my doctor (what a great person!) She said that she was going to treat her as her own, re-ran all the tests again, getting different results from the week before at the other hospital. She is having us wait a week and will do them again to see what changes there are, if any. She also spoke to an out of town Doctor to see if he is willing to help. There are alot of things that do not show up on CT's, ultra sounds and those sort of tests. On Wednesday we go see her again and they will make a decission then. They are leaning towards exploritory surgery - they will biopsy her liver, spleen, other infected organs and remove her appendix for testing also. Megin can't go to school for atleast a month more and the school she goes to is being SUPER good about it! I have to go in today with more of her homework and meet with a tutor that will be coming to our house to help 3 times a week :) I can help her with math, science and a few others but it has been 25 years since I was in HS - can't believe how much I have forgot. TO ALL YOU HOME SCHOOL MOMS - Wow, you are AWSOME! It is a full time job just getting her to sit still long enough without falling asleep to pick up a book. haha Odessa - sounds like you enjoyed yourself on you mini vacation! ----flourescent purple & green stripe ----- Love it! I did a craft show a couple of years ago with my sister and took several of my first attempts at quilting with me. One of them was purple (my favorite color) and forest green, it was the first to sell! I will be sending Kates out to you today or tomorrow - just depends what day I get to the PO. Happy week to all! Marie |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Oh, boy, Marie! Even with all you have going on, you've got your round on Kate's center already??? Wow! I need to step up my game then; fabric I just purchased (yes, that lovely flourescent green and purple :-) I was telling you about) needs to be washed and pressed. And I still have to draft my pattern, which should be pretty simple, but I really need to GET ON IT!! Tonight I will have some time because daughter won't be home until after 9:00, at which time I need to take her measurements for her costume for the Fall Follies on 10/11 - rehearsal is Saturday, I guess, and I will need her Nun's Habit by then. Thank goodness I have the fabrics, but they need to be washed, too. So happy to have washer/dryer at home! I need to get the backgrounds cut for a 12-block fall swap so I can sew them (probably tomorrow), get rolling on my Oct. block lotto blocks, AND start thinking about how to set the Sept. lotto blocks that I won. And then there's the Secret Santa stuff I have committed myself to, a fall box swap that I just have to put together now for mailing, and I am sure I am missing something else, not to mention the 2 UFO's/WIP's I wanted done by Xmas. Wow! I'm exhausted just thinking about all I have to do! So much for relaxing on my vacation! Take it easy, girls, as I may be scarce for the next little while ..... I'll miss you lots, so think of me often and please send chocolate! Odessa |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| I'll be mailing Michelle's to Marie today and I received Vicky's on Saturday. Finding the darker muslin for Vicky's was an interesting challenge but I managed to track some down yesterday and bought the last yard they had! I love it and will be looking for more for other projects; it's such a lovely, rich tan. I know this quilt will eventually be for a young man, as Vicky said, so I want to be sure I do the monkey border in a manly color. I'm sure he'll love it! Kate

RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!

| Oh, Kate, you are -- seriously -- too funny! So glad you're in this group with us; you make it look really easy. You've made my day already! Odessa |

Odessa, Kates block is on its way - hoping it will be there by Friday so that you have something to do this weekend. hehehehehe Kate, love the little monkey - to cute :) Marie |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!

hello odessa's quilt showed up today, now where to put the pirate ships and jolly rodgers? hum I'll let you know what I decied michelle |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Hi Michelle, I can hardly wait to see what you're up to with my center; just make sure that the pirate ships have really colorful parrots to keep a lookout for the sandbars and the rocky shores, okay?? Marie, I have FINALLY drafted the pattern for those flourescent greens and purples. Sorry that it took me so long, but as you know I spent 4 days playing "wife" with my husband. He was pretty good-natured, though, as we spent time in at least 3 fabric stores on our trip and he didn't complain once. Now I just have to get out the scissors and hack away at the materials so I can finish it and send it off to Vicky so she has something to keep her occupied for the next few weeks. You won't mind if it isn't particularly square when I'm done, will you??? [wink, wink] I cannot believe how quickly you all are getting your rounds completed! I must be the only one with too many things to do. Yesterday after work I met up with the spouse and the youngest daughter to watch her Senior pictures being taken. I think they will come out very lovely (so, yes, they will look NOTHING like my kid, but that's okay with me!). Then we stopped at KFC and took a bucket of chicken to the oldest daughter's house and had supper with her and the 2 grandsons. What treasures they are to us. Poor middle child was feeling left out, though, 'cuz she came to our house to do some laundry and no one was home so she called up and pouted that no one was there to talk to! So we hurried home and gave her some attention, too. Now, tonight I have to cut out the youngest's nun's costume for Saturday dress rehearsal, start working on Marie's round and hopefully finish cutting the backgrounds for some other blocks that need to go out by Monday. Hope I can get it all done .... Odessa |

RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!

| Hi again, ladies .... Well I went home for lunch and had a squishie AND a firmie ... the firmie was an order I had placed with Quilter's Quarters (they're going out of business :(, but check out the price on FQ's -- $0.88 each! www.quiltersquarters.com). Pleased with that one. The squishie was from Marie and included chocolate (thanks so much -- I will use it for energy when mine is low), AND Kate's glorious butterfly block center with one round added. Wow, Marie, your color choice was perfect with this one .... those navy blue squiggles and orange and lime green worms really tell the story of the butterfly from its beginning, don't they? Now, if only I can dig up that fabric I bought once upon a time with the orange and brown octopus on it ... those tentacles in a stacked brick design, layered with the robots I bought in silver and lime green pattern will just add to the visual excitement.... But I must finish Marie's green & purple stripes to set off the pink and yellow ballerinas and toe shoes .... Oh, the mind reels with excitement! Have a great afternoon one and all! Odessa |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Odessa - of course I would love it if it came back square to me :) I love putting diamonds in the centers but have a tuff time getting everything just right to make them square up LOL I believe that Michelles center is at the PO but as I went yesterday and they were closed it will be a couple days till I get back to town ;( I brought Megin home on Sunday - she had surgery on Thursday. Not sure if what was wrong is fixed as the pain from the 3 incission are about more than she can handle but we should know in a few more days (keeping our fingers & toes crossed hehehe) She has an appointment on Friday with our family Doctor, the results from the biopsy's should be back by then and if all is well, I should be able to go back to work if they have a posision open for me - I HOPE!! We have had over 12 inches of snow in the last couple of days although most of it melted today. Sure makes for some nice quilting weather :) Enjoy you week everyone! Marie |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Marie, if you give it a couple more days you might be able to pick up Michelle's and Vicky's. The dancing blue monkey border went together quickly on Vicky's so I'll mail that one out tomorrow. Just trying to help you stay busy while all that snow is on the ground! |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Marie, so glad to hear your daughter is home again. You'll have to let us know what the surgery showed. I am hoping she improves quickly. We may be getting snow tomorrow; it's in the forecast. This is NOT my favorite thing! Maria in the Sound of Music is a fool when she sings about "snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes"! (And middle child played that role as a senior in High School and was fabulous!) But you are right when you say that snow on the ground does make for some nice quilting weather. As an update, my round is coming along well and I believe I should be done and ready to mail out by Monday. Sure do hope you enjoy the flourescent colors! Kate, I'm looking forward to tackling yours next! Odessa |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
hello everyone I wish your daughter a speedy recovery, I'm having surgery next month, not looking forward to it but needs to be done. one an up note I have the pirate ships done for odessa's quilt and the yellow and blue parots look great. I will get it the mail today or tomarrow, so look out kate. I'll try to work on some of my christmas gift quilts in between borders, I have the tops finnished for my mother in laws, a mini contrary wife, my sister(cindy) a mini star pattern from the lotto a few months ago. she rilly likes star wars so I used space and plantes fabric with a wt/wt for the stars, it looks rilly cool. and the old jeans pocket quilts for the boys(Timmy 7, and jeremy 3) timmy gets pockets and space fabric and jeremy gets pockets and Cars fabric. I just need to assemble them all and quilt. and find out what my sister deanna wants, I have not heared back on what colors she wants. well time to get the boys ready for school see ya all later michelle |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Oh, Michelle, thank you so much for including the blue and yellow parrots on my quilt! I think those pirate ships would have just been too lonely without some beautiful birds to keep them company! I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's beautiful work all completed! Odessa p.s. just a thought: wouldn't it be just hilarious if all these great hints we're leaving were not just hints, but the actual things we're doing to each other's pieces??? (giggle, giggle, giggle ...... ) |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| just a thought: wouldn't it be just hilarious if all these great hints we're leaving were not just hints, but the actual things we're doing to each other's pieces??? (giggle, giggle, giggle ...... ) It would be kind of fun and what a conversation starter with first time guests 'Priceless' LOL I couldn't wait and made a quick trip to the PO today :) Wow -what a great center this is Michelle! You are going to love the round that Kate put on. I hope I can do justice to the next round... This is what I put together as a top to a lap quilt for my son's girlfriend Christmas - she LOVE's Kokopellis!
It will have a burgandy backing (I think) and purple binding. Something I find humorous -
I took this the day after her surgery - Yes, she is asleep and still got a grip on her phone, just in case she get's a text... (shaking my head in disbelief) Now I need to get busy on Michelle's so that when Vicky's gets here I can get them to Odessa - wouldn't want her to have any down time hehehe Marie |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Yes, thank you, Marie! I wouldn't know what "down time" is anyway! Between the birthday cakes, wedding cakes, this Round Robin (which I am still finishing yours and have Kate's already to begin when I am done), 2 birthday block groups for next year, the monthly pieced block lottos, the bi-monthly applique/paper pieced block lottos, the fall block swap and fall box exchange (from another site), and two different Secret Santa exchanges, ..... NOT TO MENTION Homecoming is this weekend and DD has requested (just last night) that I make her a "wrap" because her gown has spaghetti straps and no sleeves (and it will likely be snowing Saturday nite for the dance), my brother-in-law's quilt repair that I really want done for Christmas, my parents' anniversary quilt that was started nearly 20 years ago and is still not completed, the High School's Gypsy Robe that needs to be done before this year's production in March, and now the BOM Baltimore Album blocks that Kate and I have decided we want to work on, well ... just what the heck is "DOWN TIME"?????? I'm thinking it's a very good thing that hubby likes to cook and doesn't complain too much about my stash being all over the house. Sleep, it's an over-rated commodity, I think! On a less rant-y note, I did go to my LQS last night after work and have selected yet another fabric to go with your center ... it really needed just the right "zing" to make my round all come together, and I simply did not have any in my stash that would do it justice .... so I hope you will be okay with my adding a circus print with colorful clowns to your center. I thought we'd take your bucking horse to the rodeo realm, is that okay with you? Kate, I can't wait to start on yours next week! Have a happy one, ladies! Odessa |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
hello well odessa's is off to kate, should be there in a few days. I'm gonna start on the birthday blocks next week, I have the PP and block lotto all done, just need to ship them. happy quilting everyone michelle |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| We've really been cruising through these borders more quickly than I expected! I get one and want to start working on it immediately! But now we are getting into larger borders as the quilts get bigger. I don't think I'll be able to jump right into Odessa's because the next two weeks are already booked solid and include several days out of town (away from my sewing machine!). I don't want to hold anyone up but just wanted you all to know my turnaround on this one won't be quite so quick. Kate |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Hey, Kate, You just take your time with mine! lol I want PERFECTION!!! [GIGGLES....in the dark .... more giggles .... gee, I hope she know's I'm just kidding here!] Actually, I'm happy to hear that at least someone is thinking they may have the same time constraints I am finding myself in. I plan to be finished with Marie's so that I can send it out to Vicky on Monday, I think. Then I can start with Kate's. I don't want to be known as the woman who started all of this and then held up the process at every opportunity. I think as you all see what I am doing on each of your quilts, you will be happy that I took my time. That's not to say that I can't get the work out sooner. It's just that I want it to be RIGHT, and that takes time. And, of course, I wait for the fabric to tell me what it wants and where it wants to go before I get rolling. The first thing I thought I would do on Marie's was a really great idea, but not for her quilt. When I drafted it, it really looked awful. (And that's not even adding any fabrics to it ... just the design was NOT working the way I was thinking it would!) So I HAD to start over. When I saw Kate's in person, I knew right away what I will do ... but have to finish Marie's first, even though I know Kate's will take some time. After all, I plan to embellish the octopus tentacles (maybe with some glittery fabric paints) in the stacked bricks border, and I want to use a terrific musky-rose-colored pattern with pirrhana fish on it with a third brick of black with flourescent yellow graphics. I may do the yellow in a glow-in-the-dark fabric paint, too, but all those nights painting will definitely take time to dry. Dono't worry, Michelle, I'm not forgetting you! I have already purchasedsome orange puffy paint to highlight the easter egg fabric I've got for yours. And if that doesn't work, I've also got bright kelly green shamrocks and red & pink hearts ... You didn't know you were making a year of holidays quilt, did you????? Now, Vicky, I am thinking about yours quite a lot these days. Seems I've got a plan for everyone else's, but nothing for you. I have this really great print that's pink cabbage roses with blue cat faces in them all over ... a pretty awesome piece of materisl. I was trying to think of a way to use those and I was considering making some bear traps to applique on my round. I hope that you're not afraid, though, because it will all be done very tastefully (with my chocolate-stained fingers!). Well, I'm off to home to make DD's wrap for her homecoming dress, then freeze my butt off at the game. But only until halftime. Once that's done, I am out of there! My fireplace and a mug of hot chocolate await.... Have a great weekend all, Odessa |

Odessa, I'm just waiting and twiddling my thumbs(ya right I'm up to my elbows in purses!) I don't spend any time thinking what I'm going to do on anybodies until it gets to me, cause I'll change my mind ten time while it's here. Vicky |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Vicky, I like to get a "jumpstart" on all the brain changes before I see the piece in person; gives me more time to work when they get here! And how are the purses coming along? Will we all be getting a sample for the holidays? Gosh, I hope you get me for the Secret Santa swap ... I'm ready for one of your purses! (yeah, I just HAD to say it! ... giggles ... wink ... wink!) RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!

| Odessa - ya know there is only 24 hours in each day! Where are you getting those extra hours from? Good grief, you are one busy lady! I took a couple hours off yesterday and went to Walmart, Joanne's and the Vac & Sew place. The lady in charge of crafts special ordered the fabric I needed to finish my son's Christmas quilt (2 years in the making, just cause I was lazy!) Then the fabric I wanted to use on Michelles' although very cute - didn't go with the rest of the colors at all :( so I hunted Joanne's for an hour and found some that is perfect :). The pattern I am useing for the blocks called for a 45 degree angle - okay I admit, when this comes up for stuff of mine, I just 'eye-ball' it and make it work. BUT I just couldn't make myself do it to someone else's piece. So I stopped at the Vac & Sew shop - Pa does vacumes and Ma does the sewing part LOL They showed me how to use one of the nifty rulers with degree's on it and I purchased it. Have no fear Michelle, or not to much! I will figure this out hehehehe Oh, also they are having a free help day for UFO's on the 28th that I think I will try to get to. When I was searching my stash for Christmasy fabric, I lost my mind and counted all the quilts that are started - 7 of them! From just started to needing the binding put on.... With this 10 hours of help - I am hoping to get at least a couple of them finished! Then... last night I finished the top of my son's quilt YIPPY except that I made it 10 inches longer than planned cause it will fit a King or a Queen and then discovered I don't have enough flannel for the backing... Yep, 10 inches short GRRRRRR So now I have to decide if I want to shorten the quilt or just buy new backing :( When I can get my sister to come over, I will have her help hold it up for pictures. Now, I am off to start the blocks for Michelle's :) Must finish it this weekend so that I can work on Vicki's come Monday. Marie OH, forgot to say: The doctor said that Meg is doing great, all results were in good standing and she can start going back to school on the 26th for 1/2 days! |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!

| Marie, it sounds as if yesterday was a good day for you. And I'm happy to hear your daughter has turned a corner for the good. We've been praying for her recovery. Odessa |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Okay, Vicky, I know you've been patiently waiting for it, and I am now done with Marie's center. Hoo-ray! All I need to do is press it and put in the mail to you. Should be in the post office Wed. afternoon (technically today, but I've not been to bed yet, so if I miss the mailman, will you forgive me?), so you should have by Monday to start your creation. Now, on to Kate's lovely butterfly center. Hmmmm..... got some new fabrics with teapots and cups on them, and some terrific "swimming pool" blue ... maybe I will ditch the octopus and reconsider what I will do .... Oh! I know! Can I find that material with the tanks on it???? I could aim the cannons toward the center to draw attention to that butterfly! Howitzers and butterflies ... yessssssss ... oh, it will be glorious! Odessa |

RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Good morning all! I thought that I had posted on Tuesday but.... I did recieved Vicky's center and I LOVE it!! Wow, Vicky, your applique stitches are lovely - wish I could get mine to look that nice. The blocks I am working on for Michelle's are taking a little longer than I thought they would but I really like how they are turning out :) It is really worth the effort IMO. Marie |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Well, Marie, I suppose you woke up to snow everywhere today, so you are either shoveling or quilting ... which is is??? Kate, I have finished preparing my border ideas for your center ... a quick trip to the LQS this afternoon for some new colors for it and I will be able to begin. Have to say, I've scrapped the octopus tentacles, the tanks and the neon in favor of mud brown, pumpkin orange and chrysalis green. Any thoughts on what I may be doing??????? (wink, wink, wink!) Michelle, do you have any preference for what I should be thinking about putting on your center as I will get it next??? I was thinking perhaps Easter eggs and bunnies, but I just don't quite know yet .... And Vicky, I haven't forgotten about your lovely deer applique center. I was bouncing off the walls last week with the idea that I could put some wonky cabins around it, but I am just not too sure ... I did see some snake fabric clearanced at my LQS, maybe that will work..... Happy sewing one and all, Odessa |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| I received Marie's center from Odessa, thinking, thinking...... Vicky~ |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
hello well I have put the time between borders to good use, I have compleatly torn apart my sewing corner and made most of the room into a sewing room. now I need to sort my fabric into large pieces, fat quarters, small pieces and crumbs. then I'm gonna sort the FQ's and large pieces by color. I'm not sure what to do with the small pieces and crumbs. any ideas? marie or kate, eather of you want a scrapy border? just kidding. as far as what I want on mine, just use your best quilters judgment, as it gets bigger you can make the borders a little simpler, it will take to long to make complex ones as it gets larger. well I'm gonna go sort the stash later michelle |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Well, Kate, you would be proud of me ... I FINALLY have put needle and thread to your center and begun my wholesale alteration of your lovely butterfly center. Any little boy will be proud to own it some day ... I believe it will be a true testament to a little worm-picking, mud-stomping, all-American BOY. The kind of a "Linus" blankie that gets dragged around and around and around and around ... until the love and the guts are all over the floor. ROFL I had planned to do something else on it, but will not be adding that little piece as I don't want to freak Vicky out when she gets it. (let's just say that DD's science experiment of how to make fabric from animal entrails has been wildly successful; you'd never even know it, except for that formaldehyde smell that tends to linger just a bit ......) Now, has anyone seen my eyeballs lying around? They must be here somewhere ..... I am currently blinded by the wildly psychedelic colors and designs that I added to this whimsical little butterfly, but I must persevere..... I believe Michelle's center is coming next, and I need my wits to decide whether it will be hearts, bunnies, Easter eggs, shamrocks, or turkeys that go on her center. Then of course, it will be on to Vicky's. She's been awfully quiet here on the board, and I am afraid we may have frightened her to the point where she is not certain she even wants to make a comment .... Fear not, Vicky, I promise not to do anything too wild or gross to your center; I just find it fun to tease Kate about hers. Now, do YOU have a preference for what you want to see on your quilt? Maybe I should dig out the jellybean fabric? Or how about some bowling pin fabrics? I know I have both of those...... Oh! I know! Those Black & White prints I won in the Sept. block lotto would be just AWESOME around your center!!!! Oh, but since I'm the last one on yours before you get it back, it would be too easy for you to remove them and do somethine else ..... rats! Phooey! Phooey! Phooey! All right, new game plan. Think, think, think .... And for all you out there in "Lurkers-Land", can you see how much fun we are having with what we are doing? It is just a riot here in Round Robin Town. We do wish you'd all consider joining us! Have a glorious week one and all! Odessa |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!

ok miss O I think you had a litte too much coffee today, maybe you should lay off it for a wile. I got my nov block lotto blocks done today, they were fun and I used all scraps from the scrap box. I'm very jelous that you won octobers I just love them, please let us know what you use them for. well I'm off to lay down, I have a terrible migrain today. michelle |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Michelle, No coffee today; hubby didn't make it and I was too rushed. Glad to see you are doing the block lotto for Nov. I hope you win; it's great to find out that your name was pulled (speaking from experience!) LOL. Must have been migraine day all over the place today; I had one, too, as did husband. But came home and had dinner. Worked on Kate's center anyway. Quilting always calms me down and makes life better. Well, it's off to bed for me. Still have to work in the a.m. The Divine Miss O |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Well, Kate, I have to tell you that you will have to rush around and hurry to put together another center. Husband says you aren't allowed to get it back; he wants me to keep it now. Please don't pout and be sad. He means well, honestly he does, but he really wants to keep it. Is that okay? Odessa |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Odessa- you sure are a hard act to follow! The more I look at this the more I think I may ruin it if I add anything. Vicky |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Ha! Vicky, you're a hoot! You can put almost anything on that center and it won't wreck a thing. I'm convinced you will know what to do with it ... what I ended up doing was sticking it up on my metal closet doors for a couple weeks. I saw it several times every day, and the fabric talked to me. Sometimes in whispers, and then very loudly yelling at me to put the design in my head onto paper. When I did that, I discovered that while my original idea was a good one, it would not work with what was already in place (too many angles that did not work well with Marie's original center). So back up on the closet door it went again, but I found fabrics to work with in the mean time. As I ruminated on what to do, it came to me one night, and I had to do some digging through my massive library of quilting magazines (another weakness) to find a pattern similar to what I ended up with. You know, I only have 1 mag that shows that particular sort of design, but it's not "quartered" like what I have on there, and it is different from what I did (same idea, different proportions). I just needed a reference point to work from and I am not an artist - can't draw anything but a cake with any accuracy. So, back to the drawing board ... how will I make this work? How can I work it out? What do I have at my disposal to help me with this design? I felt like I was running out of time and holding up everyone else's work in the process. As a cake decorator, I have at my disposal a vast variety of pans, plates, and boards in almost every size and shape imaginable. I went to those things because it would be easier (and more accurate as a starting point) than trying to draft from scratch, and I could potentially "make it work" as Tim Gunn says. A big plus for me. A couple hours, some freezer paper, large sheets of graph paper, a couple erasers and some drafting pencils later, I had the beginnings of what you have in your hands. Please don't be afraid. As you can see, I had some difficulty with what I was able to accomplish. It's not as perfect as I would have preferred. But if you can't tell from 15 feet away without searching for it specifically, no one else will know of your problems unless you are pointing them out. Think about this: does it need a curve? Does it need a solid piece? Maybe something with lots of angles? Or maybe just a checkerboard of fabrics will do? Perhaps your choice of fabric is what will jar you into creativity. You have to determine what the piece is calling for next. And honestly, if someone sends mine back with just a simple one-fabric border that will be just fine with me ... it will give me an opportunity to do some awesome quilting designs or maybe some more applique ... that piece is not done talking to me yet, I'm sure! So maybe bring back the black or the cream tones from the center ... maybe the brown. A simple one-fabric border with cornerstones might be good, but I can't determine what you're feeling about that piece, only you can make that call. Maybe the perfect single piece of fabric will not just whisper, but SING to you and voila! You will be ready to mail to Michelle. The problem I am having is that I want to do my very best work on these centers, and yet be innovative and fun at the same time. I was working on Kate's last night and DH said that he thinks I should tell her "the dog ate my homework", or some variation thereof! He wants me to keep it and send something else in its place (Big smiles) I thought about it for about 2 seconds and told him NO, that would not be fair. [It's nice when they take an interest in my work, though, and I am happy to have the compliment, even if it means having to give up something I have come to cherish if only for a short while.] Best of luck to you on your dilemma, Vicky. I know you will come up with just the right thing. Odessa p.s. if you think I'm tough to follow on Marie's center, wait until you see Kate's. Don't worry ... I'll do something equally as spectacular on Michelle's and yours in their turns. Wouldn't want you to be left out! O |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| I've been traveling for business the past week without access to a computer! I was in email deprivation and forum withdrawal! DH Jim is heading out tomorrow for Fargo ND to spend a week with his father who just had back surgery so I'll be on my own, with lots of time to sew. My plan is to finish Odessa's border - 3 sides are done so all I have left to finish is the leaping robotic trout portion on the 4th side. Then I'll clean up the sewing room and set aside the fabrics for Marie's border. I have given up planning borders until I see what others have put on, but I do have 3 gorgeous fabrics I'm eager to use on it. When we started this I was positive we wouldn't be finished until late winter but the excitement of the project seems to have moved us along quicker than expected. Not sure if we'll be done by the end of the year but it's possible. Kate |
How about this?
| | |
| ROUND ROBBINERS: We are getting close to the end of this wonderful project and I was thinking about how we might want to handle that. Let's hold off on sending them back to the original quilter until we are all finished. Is that OK? Then we'll all receive them at about the same time. Does that seem like a good idea? Kate |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Hello Kate, "...leaping robotic trout ..." Oh, dear God, how I laughed when I read this! I am still giggling almost 10 minutes later (huge smiles)! I am seriously excited to see what you have all put on my piece. I thought you were mighty silent this past week or so, and I am glad to see that all is well. I am working on your border and it is coming along nicely. I have been amazing myself on this one, which is probably why the spouse wants me to keep it. He says I should tell you the dog ate my homework, but I know that won't fly with you. So instead I am off to the fab store later today to get more fabrics to add. I found some with bowling pins and balls and am planning a little wideer "frame" (hahaha) of that. Tanks, balls, pins, .... yours is one fun project to work with. I'm glad you mentioned the ending of this project. I have been considering that, too, and think it is a good idea to send the final mailing all on the same date. We should keep in touch to make sure everyone is finished first, then send on a specific date. I think it would be fun if we all opened them on the same day so we can have a "virtual party" of unwrapping our little packages. Maybe a good target date for opening will be January 3 ... a weekend day, so should not have too much trouble with work conflicts, and gives us time to complete stuff both for our holiday celebrations and our Round Robin centers. Plus, it will be like our own little holiday celebration. Does anyone have difficulty with that date for opening? I'm thinking that if we can put the finished centers in the mail by Dec. 20, it will give the post office ample time to get them to each of us. Does anyone else have any thoughts on this? I'm open to suggestion..... Odessa |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
hello I'm good with waiting to open them all at once, and wha ever date you all think we can make is fine too. when ever I get a center I just can't wait to get started, I think we all feel that way. I have an idea for january, when we are all done with this project. a round robin for appliquet, we each pick a subject like ex: "butterfly garden" and put a few pieces on the background(around 24") then we pass it to the next person in line and they add a few pieces like some flowers or a butterfly, or a tree or something that goes with the theme. then off to the next one. I'll have to wait and see how things look in january. well I'm off to take a rest happy quilting michelle |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Michelle, that's an interesting idea. I'd be willing, but I am doing a Baltimore Album BOM next year with Kate, and I am in 2 Birthday groups. But it might be interesting to come up with a new theme .... I'll think on it. It's nice to hear that others are thinking about what's next, too! Odessa |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| I think it's an interesting idea too, but don't think I could look at starting before Spring. Besides the Baltimore Album project and the birthday blocks, I have a big wedding quilt to make and don't want to commit to much more than those 3 things in the beginning of the year. Let's keep that new RR idea going though! We started this one in August and look how fast we've progressed! Kate |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Well, an update begs to be included. I am still working on Kate's center ... obviously, sewing tanks to her quilt is much more difficult and intricate than I had originally anticipated. As I have a wedding cake this weekend, I do not perceive having it ready to mail out until the 23rd at the earliest. This is NOT that difficult, but it seems that life is managing to get in my way! Our minister has just announced that she is retiring when she gets married in February, so naturally, I have decided we (the whole church, which is thankfully very small) will make her a signature quilt. I have selected a design that will allow for photos and signatures on it, and now have to get ready to get that rolling. I want all signatures by 11/29 so I can sew in Dec. and take to the longarmer in early Jan. (Yeah, I know, I'm a glutton for punishment!). Thankfully, my pattern is pretty simple. Am also sewing Christmas banners for my church with a small group of women. We selected designs for 2 new banners last Thurs. This week we discuss how much fabric we need, etc. Maybe have to shop black Friday for supplies. Add on Secret Santa, trying to gear up for 2 Birthday Block exchanges next year, the Baltimore Album BOM Kate and I are doing ... well, don't even get me started on daughter's Senior Year of High School (right, like THAT is important! lol) So I am hoping that Sunday I get really energized in the afternoon and get the bulk of what is left to do on Kate's center done so I can send to Vicky. Don't want her to have NOTHING TO DO on Thanksgiving weekend! TTFN (ta ta for now) Odessa |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Not to worry I have a LOT to keep me busy. I have ideas floating around in my brain right now to keep me busy for the REST of my life! Vicky |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Done!!! Tonight I finished the trout on Odessa's. They just didn't have enough sparkle to clearly show they are metal Robot Trout so i hand stitched with silver thread around their fins. A quick spritz with silver glitter spray paint and they were perfect! I'm so pleased with the result --- although the paint does make it a bit stiff. I'm sure that will wash out over time and soften up, eventually. I'll be mailing it early next week! Kate |
You thought I was kidding????
| | |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Kate, I would NEVER doubt your veracity; you always say exactly what you mean and you mean what you say! Had to work on a wedding cake for tonight, so have not picked up your center in about 4 days. Thought I might get to it tonight, but have to cut strips and press a little freezer paper to the backs for signatures at church tomorrow for our minister's surprise autograph quilt. Perhaps tomorrow....I've got so much to do! Perhaps tomorrow will be better ..... after I get my cake pans, plates, pillars, spatulas, mixing bowls, whisks, etc., etc., etc., washed ...... Odessa |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| those are not trout, you silly, they are catfish. I'm gonna work on layering and pinning my mini quilts for chrictmas gifts. I'm gonna try to work on the hand quilting wile I'm recovering from my surgery this friday. I spent several hours yesterday sorting and ironing my scraps, I'm gonna work on a scrap quilt when I get the christmas gifts done. I also have most of my birthday blocks done for next year, I had some trouble with a few but after ripping out a few times I think I have them. well I'm off see ya all later michelle |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
Michelle, I finally got Marie's center done and it will be on it's way tomorrow or Monday. I bet you were wondering if I would ever finish, if you weren't I sure was. I had a quilter's block on it. Vicky~ |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Well, ladies, it seems the holidays are upon us and I don't know about all of you, but I have encountered a situation I did not anticipate. I am in the middle of trying to complete my round on Kate's lovely butterfly center, but it is taking so much more time than I had anticipated and keeping me from my holiday preparations and projects. Although I try to put in some time on it daily, this is really bothering me to the point that I am not sleeping and I am afraid "Something's Gotta Give" ... and it just may be me! So I have e-mailed Kate directly and advised of my situation. With her blessing (as her center is the one that is most affected by my decision), I would like to recommend that we put these centers on "hold" until after the 27th of December, presumably when things calm down just a bit. It saddens me to have to ask this, but I do not want to do shoddy work on one of your centers and this is the best way I know to insure everyone who needs their little piece of me gets their fair share. Now, if any of you are not having any difficulty in working your RR centers into your schedule, please do not let me stop you from cruising along as before. However, I am giving you fair warning that my bleeding little fingertips and I shall be working on other holiday projects and preparations for a while, but will commence with RR centers once my life gets out of the current holiday turmoil. If you need anything from me in the mean time, or if you have any questions that I can answer quickly, please let me know either here in this forum or by e-mail. Thanks Kate for giving me the okay to slow down, and thank you all for understanding. Odessa |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!

hello I know we have all been very buisy the last few weeks, but I wanted to up date what I have been up to. I got marie's center a few eeks ago and sent it on to Kate, I hope she got it ok. I rilly like the way hers is comming out, I think she will too. I don't have any centers right now, and was wondering if we could all take a minuet to let the group know where the centers are now. 1. michelle/micyrey---no centers I also want to wish you all very merry christmas, I hope you have a great holyday, and look forward to getting back in touch with you all in a week or 2. best wishes michelle |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Good idea, Michelle! I did receive Marie's center and promptly changed my mind about what I wanted to do with the border. I'll use some of the fabrics I already found for it but needed something else. I've ordered it from Paducah Hancock so I'll be ready to start when it gets here. I love, love, LOVE the border Michelle added to Marie's! It is adorable and PERFECT. I would never have thought of it but I plan to steal the idea for a quilt I'm working on. (I'm sending Michelle an email to ask more about it.) Wish I could describe it for all of you right now but that will have to wait until we are all done. It won't be long now! I still have Odessa's center, but my border on it is done. The Holidays jumped out at me and I haven't gotten it mailed. I will try to get that out to Marie on Saturday or Monday at the latest. I'm sorry for the delay and have no excuse for not getting it out sooner since it's just a matter of printing a mailing label. Sometimes it's the little things that trip us up! Kate Merry Christmas! Happy New Year! Joyous Holidays! |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
I am not participating in this RR, but I have wondered what you all are up to on them!!! Good idea to post the progress and hear about the little trips and bumps :) I am reading the #2 book "Round Robin" in the Elm Creek Novel Series by Jennifer Chiaverini. I am thinking of you gals as I read, and the connection you are forming to each other as you work on each others' centers. I did not fully understand the concept when you started your RR, and definitely not the "spirit" of the RR until now (I'm 1/2 way thru the book). I can't wait to see your final results ~ I am enjoying your triumphs and searching for the perfects borders for each center. Thanks! Everyone have a very Happy Holidays! |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| MRG - you are right about the connection. I had always wanted to do a RR but I didn't expect the strong connection until we started. I feel an amazing responsibility when I am working on another quilter's piece - I want to do it right and I want it to please them. I'm much more connected to these quilters and understand their styles because I've touched their quilts. It's very powerful and wonderful. Plus it's been so much fun to be able to add bunnies, fish and robot monkeys to so many quilts! There aren't many opportunities to do that and you have to enjoy it when you can. Kate |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!

| "Plus it's been so much fun to be able to add bunnies, fish and robot monkeys to so many quilts! There aren't many opportunities to do that and you have to enjoy it when you can. " OMG Kate, I nearly spat out my mouthful of hot chocolate when I read this! Sorry I didn't get online here in the last couple fo days. I do still have Kate's center. I am NOT finished with it. I cannot pick it back up until afterthe 1st as I have to piece together the minister's retirement quilt (yes, I will try to post photos as soon as I am able). MRG, I'm glad you are enjoying our little game here; this project has been an absolute joy to work on. I keep wanting to really out-perform and push my skills on each subsequent center, and prefer to do only my very, very best. I'm not entirely certain I am able to perform as well as I wish, but I want each resulting quilt to be as special as the person to whom it will eventually belong and to the people who began the process with me. We are, of course, enjoying the journey, but also having SO MUCH FUN trying to advise each other about our progress and the eventual appearance of our quilts. Personally, I hope that Kate enjoys the howitzers on her butterfly center. I have also been toying with the idea ofa "scratch-n-sniff" fabric that smells like roses for it, but I just don't know. It's a technology that I have to figure out yet ... but fear not, Kate, I'll some up with SOMETHING spectacular for you, I promise! Odessa |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| My update is: I don't have a center to work on right now, just waiting. Vicky~ |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Vicky - you're waiting for me.... boy am I red-faced! But I won't be able to work on the remainder of what I have to do on Kate's center until after 1/1/10, so I will be getting it to you ASAP. I promise! Joyce |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Hi Ladies! I know I have been MIA for a while but am hopefully back now (as least sometimes!) I finished Michelle & Vicki's centers and sent them on to Odessa last week. I thought that since she has so little to do, sending both was going to be a big help in that department... hehehehe They were both great fun to work on and I am please with the way they turned out. Hope you both are also! I like the idea of waiting to open altogether! Although it will be VERY VERY HARD not to peek when I have it just waiting.... I will resist! Happy New Years to all! Marie |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
Marie, You sent those off just in time! I have Odessa's packaged up and finally ready to mail off to you. I have your lovely center here and just received the fabric I ordered for it. Each one of these quilts has been a wonderful surprise. What a creative group! I'm so impressed with the work already done on yours and once again I'm in fear of not living up. I think I need to do some sample blocks to see how it all looks before I commit to my plan. Do I go with more cool bunny applique or the Mick Jagger Rolling Stones fabric. It's so hard to decide! Kate

RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Well, girls, I've completed my top for my minister's retirement quilt and taken it to be quilted. Now I am in the process of cutting birthday blocks that I am behind on, and working on Kate's center again. I am hoping to be caught up very, very soon. To update everyone, I received a box from Marie yesterday. I know that it contains Michelle and Vicky's centers, because she sent me an e-mail advising it would. I am determinied to NOT open it until I have completed my work on Kate's quilt. The fact that this box is sitting there, calling my name is encouragement enough to get me going on completing my tasks. Vicky, I am hopeful that I will be sending Kate's block to you very soon. I have found a woman who machine embroiders, and she is going to embroider floral wreaths onto the Howitzer barrels of the tank fabric I've added to Kate's quilt. I just need to complete the piecing tonight so that she can get at that process for the weekend. She advises that she will be able to complete it quickly as it is a small pattern that will take but minutes to finish on each barrel. The fact that there are about 45 barrels is no obstacle to her, from what she tells me. I think I may have her change it to a floral peace sign/wreath on each, but I want to think that one through first. Kate, I would recommend the mick jagger fabric for Marie's center. If you'd like, I can send you some limo fabric to help you complete it! And I do love the bunny ... he's so awesome in those shades! I agree with Kate, this has been a wonderful group to work with. I have really enjoyed seeing everyone's fabric choices and how we have al interpreted our newfound friends' artistic directions. I believe I have grown in my approach to quilting projects and I think you all have, too. This has been so much fun, we should do it again some time! [But let's wait until we finish up these yet, okay?] Maybe next time we can convince more to join us. It's been a real blast! I can't wait to open the box sitting at home. So I'd better get back to work so I can leave on time tonight or I will never be able to complete everything on my plate! Stay warm, Odessa |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Okay, ladies, I'm getting back on track! Finished catching up with ALL of my birthday blocks today, and now I can pull out Kate's center tomorrow to work on it. So look out, we're getting back on track! the snow we've had here is a good motivator! Odessa |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| So, ladies, I was up pretty late last night, catching up on all the sewing I had set aside so I could work on Chrismas banners for my church and make my minister's retirement quilt top. What a success for me. So here I am today, sitting on the couch, and staring at the lovely wreath-festooned howitzers on Kate's center. I have determined that I need to add little puffs of "smoke" exiting the barrels. I think that I will paint these onto your center, as applique would take far too long and I need to get this off my sewing table and on to Vicky's as quickly as possible. I really have to say, Kate, the tempered gray of the howitzers helps to offset the lovely blue and orange of your butterfly. I am ever so happy that my friend was able to "thread-paint" the floral wreaths onto the gun barrels. And so quickly! I completely adore the purple, crimson, fuschia, yellow and blue that I may have her make me a larger version to put onto a bag. Vicky, don't be afraid of adding more color to Kate's center. It's a veritable kaleidoscope of color and everything is just exploding off the fabric. You cannot make a mistake, honestly. I cannot imagine anything cuter than frogs in Santa hats for your round ... it would ultimately add that festive holiday air that the piece is begging for. And if I had some to send your way, I would be happy to. Sorry, girl, you're on your own for this one! Michelle, I haven't forgotten about you. I think we need to stick with the "Wild Kingdom" theme we've given Kate's center. Do you have anything with Dinosaurs and Kangaroos? And I think that flourescent colors on a black background will be a great touch to provide a frame for this piece of ART we have created for Kate. Is anyone as excited as I am about this swap????? "Laughing all the way....." Odessa |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Bring it on! I haven't started on Marie's but I am planning, planning, planning. I have fabric set out all over the sewing room and her lovely center pinned up on the design wall. I had my heart set on adding more bunnies - it's a theme and you'll all get them - but then thought they might not be in proportion to the cowboy, Odessa's dancing cactus, Michelle's silver 6 shooters with spinning bullets (really, I don't know how she attached the little motors!) and the adorable 'bears in boots' that Vicky added. But then it hit me: all I have to do is give them tiny cowboy hats and boots! It's so perfect and I think I can do the boots and hats in the same fabric so I don't even need to do any additional shopping! (Seriously, working with these browns and ivories on Marie's is going to be luscious. Makes me think of chocolates and cream. Yummy!) Kate |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Oooooooooooooo, Kate, how about putting little bandanas around their necks, too??? Yee-hawwwww! Chocolates and cream .......... mmmmmmmmmmmmm. I think I need to go home and have some amaretto-laced hot chocolate tonight. It's only about 13 degrees here today. Hope you're all warm. Odessa |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Thanks for the idea but I've given up the bunny plan for the cowboy quilt. I recalled a wonderful Hoyt Axton song called "Wild Bull Rider" and that will set the mood for my border on Marie's quilt! I'm so excited! Here are some of the lyrics: Billy rode that killer out of New Mexico He rode him cross the Rockies through the rain and the snow Rode across the desert to the shining sea; rode across the water out to Hawaii Rode across the water out to Hawaii Aloha ha Aloha hey Aloha ha Aloha hey Billy rode that bull around the world and then He rode him out to Jupiter and back again Picked up Dixie away they did fly; like a shootin' star sailing through the sky Like a shootin' star sailing through the sky So you can see that I simply must include some Hawaiian fabrics, a little blue for the ocean, and most definitely planets and a shooting star for Billy's ride out to Jupiter. This is going to be AWESOME!
Kate (Aloha ha Aloha hey Aloha ha Aloha hey...) |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Oh, Kate, it sounds truly spectacular! I'm sure Marie will be excited to see it! Keep up the good work! Odessa |

RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Well, Kate, the paint is dry. Now, for the glitter ... I wasn't going to do it, but my daughter was singing some of her recital music last night, and the song "Glitter and Be Gay" was one of them. So, of course, I just HAD to do it. But first, I need to go find some camouflage-colored glitter. Do you think the local Army-Navy supply store will have some???? Odessa |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Okay, girls, I must admit to cheating a little: I opened the box. You should recall that Marie sent me Michelle and Vicky's centers in one box. And I said that I was NOT going to open the box until I had Kate's center done. but the box was calling my name so loudly today that I simply HAD to open it, if for no other reason than to get the darn thing to SHUT UP!!! I have to tell you, I am thrilled with what I saw in there. My brain is thinking about what to do with Michelle's, and I am getting ideas galore. The problem is which ones are the best ideas? Vicky, I am hopeful that you and your son are going to love your quilt as much as we have al enjoyed working on it. I originally selected something from my stash that I thought would work on it, and I was right. Now, just HOW to use them????? I must finish gluing the camouflage glitter onto the howitzers of Kate's center. It was REALLY DIFFICULT to find it, Kate, so I am very hopeful that you will appreciate what I went through to find it. If I don't get an opportunity to tell you all, this Round Robin has really been so very much fun to work on with the four of you. I have "met" some wonderful people who, no matter their skill level, I will consider friends for as long as I live. You are all just wonderful to take on this journey with me and I really appreciate your willingness to do this. It's been glorious so far, and I hope we keep in touch. Odessa |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| "...camouflage glitter..." This is such a great concept! |
Is it there???
| | |
Marie, I'm a little worried because I haven't heard that you received Odessa's center. Is it there? I'm afraid all the bad winter weather we've had across the country has delayed shipping, but it should have arrived a couple weeks ago. I haven't done much on yours yet. I keep changing my mind on the fabric. I made up sample portions of the border in each of the 3 favorite fabrics and liked them all! Decisions, decisions... Kate |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
hello I can't wait to see how mine looks, I have a stack of batics(sp?) ready for kate's, I'll decied one the ones I want when it gets here. I'm packing most of my crafts but will leave out my sewing stuff till it is time to move(hopfully before May) I got a new machine, it is a Janome, has lots of fancy computerized stuff I still need to learn how to use, but did a few of the birthday blocks on it and all went well. my oldest son Timmy thought since I had a new I didn't need the old one and used it to mash goldfish crackers with the feed-dog and needle. I'm dreading going to the shop and explain why I need cracker crums cleaned out of it. I have also sorted and organized my fabric, if it is going to stay ut when we show the house it needs to be neater. well I'm off to take a bath, was on my hands and knees scrubbing the wood floors today and feel kinds dirty, and a little sore. see ya michelle |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Does everyone now have (or almost have) the last quilt? Should we shoot for getting them finished by the end of February or is that rushing it? I don't want to pressure anyone so if that doesn't work just say so; I was thinking it's good to have a goal date to help us stay focused. I haven't started on Marie's yet but I'm "fixin' ta". I'm getting really excited about seeing all the finished products!!! Kate |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| I do not have a block and haven't for a long time. I will have two more coming my way so I don't know if I can get both done by then or not. Vicky |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| I'm sorry, Vicky. I didn't realize you didn't have any to work on. Never mind my goal suggestion! Like I said, I don't want there to be any pressure. My enthusiasm got the better of me again. Kate |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Kate, you are just always pushing me to be better! I've got your center (and am completing it, really I am!), and Marie sent Michelle and Vicky's to me in one box. I've taken a look at them and am formulating a plan as I continue the complete yours. I am hoping to send to Vicky early next week. Then will work on Michelle's and finally, Vicky's. I try to put in some time every day with my quilting, but it's been a little tricky lately; this is competition season for musicians and we're getting into the thick of it. Last Sunday, my middle daughter performed her Senior Voice Recital @ Saginaw Valley State University where she has been studying voice for the past 4 years. She won't graduate until May of 2011, but wanted to get the recital out of the way now. It was just glorious, but between church and the recital, then a reception afterwards, there went my entire day. Next we have district vocal solo & ensemble for the youngest daughter a week from this Saturday, then band solo & ensemble shortly thereafter. Musical is the end of March, and the fun continues until graduation in May. So I'm squeezing in the quilting and trying to simplify my design work. You ladies will have to let me know if I am successful. I think it would be great to shoot for St. Patrick's Day for mailing out the centers to their initial owners. I think that will motivate all of us, but we don't want to stress anyone, like Kate said. Well, gotta get that binding on the minister's quilt. (See, my work is NEVER done!). Odessa |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Let's not set a goal date until everyone has the last quilt. Once that happens we can look at it again and maybe give ourselves a month to do the last border. The last one is the largest and so it may take longer than the earlier borders did. I don't want anyone to feel rushed. Kate |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Perfect solution, Kate. Have I told you recently how much I appreciate you keeping us all going here? And how helpful you have been to this exchange? You're tops in my book, kiddo! (now, where did I put those flourescent dyes for her quilt????....... looking ........... looking..........) Odessa |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Hi ladies! Yes, I have been MIA for a bit - all work and no play :( I have recieved Odessa's center - ABSOLUTLY STUNNING!!! It is the last one I have to finish and I have no idea where to start! The middle of March sound good or later :) I know that Odessa has a couple to work on & I am just thinking of her time factor - OKAY and it will help me also lol Kate - I love your little song!! I grew up at the foot of the Rockies, have a sister named Dixie - 'insert drum roll here' - ...... My daughter & I get to go to HAWAII for six blissful days in April!!! I am hoping to pick up some 'hawaii' type fabrics, that way I will have some to compliment what you are doing. hehehehe Marie |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Marie! So good to see you're surviving the winter. I was worried you had nothing to do and had forgotten about us! I'm excited to hear that you like my center. I am getting excited to see it soon. But you take your time and enjoy working on it. And congrats on the opportunity to go to Hawaii! Enjoy it! Pick out some great fabrics for yourself to work with. Are you going to learn to do a typical Hawaiian piece? It would be cool to do a small (16") piece to remind yourself of your trip always. I'm really happy for you. Odessa |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Well, here we go!!!!!! Tomorrow (or today ... whatever!) is President's Day, so no mail service, BUT I will be putting Kate's center in the box to mail off to Vicky on Tuesday! Now, Vicky, I know that you are worried about having gotten a little rusty since it's been a LONG TIME since I've sent you a center, but getting everything "just right" on this one was paramount for me, especially once I started marking up my border .... all those glittered and embroidered Howitzers took way more time than I had anticipated. I'm really sorry that I held up production for so long, ladies. However, I hope that you all feel it was truly worth the wait. At any rate, once it's on its way, I'll be starting on Michelle's, which I have a clear idea what I want to do with. And then we can get on with completing this Round Robin. I can't wait to see everyone's finished products! Thanks, everyone, for being so patient with my slowness. Odessa |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| I've been working on Marie's border this weekend. Sewing and watching the Olympics --- it doesn't get much better than that! Kate |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
How many rounds are left? I'm anxious to see photos! Salijo |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| All of us are on either the last round or the next to the last. But there won't be photos until they are all done. We are going to ship the tops off to their owners on the same day, hoping they all arrive at the same time. Then the owner can post a picture. As we get to the outer borders, it takes more time and more fabric so the process goes slower. Plus you need to come up with a design that works with everything that's already been added. I'm sure we are all getting eager to see our quilts! Thanks for following our story! Kate |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| I have Kate's center and I'm really thinking on it........ by the way Odessa you are NOT an easy act to follow I didn't even know what a Howitzer was until now.... Vic |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!

RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| " ... Odessa you are NOT an easy act to follow I didn't even know what a Howitzer was until now.... Vic" Yeah, I know, I'm just a pain......but aren't those Howitzer's a hoot??? I'm sure the glittered painting will stand out, but I'm sure you can come up with your own take on what needs to go next. I'm trying to locate just the "right" fabric for Michelle's center, but having a little trouble. Am diligently searching for something with just the "right" sense of decorum ... saw some Mad Hatter/March Hare-type fabric over the weekend, but honestly, the colors were just too NORMAL for this quilt. It needed something a little funkier, so I passed. Snowing today, so instead of working I want to be home sewing. But alas, I need to get more done for the Bossman, so I shall update you all again soon. Onward and Upward! Odessa |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
maybe some florecent polka dots HE HE |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| I agree, Michelle! We need more polka dots! And anything 'glow in the dark' would be perfect, too. |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Actually, Kate, I wish you'd told me that about the "glow in the dark" before ... I could have had it finished a LOT sooner! I bought some glow in the dark thread for DGS's fish quilt, thinking it will be cool on an undersea-type picture. I can just imagine stitching with that GITD thread around the howitzers ... what a sight it woudl make on the wall at night! Good Luck, Vicky, if you want my GITD thread, let me know and I'll ship it out right quick! Odessa |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Well, I spent some time last night selecting fabrics for my border on Michelle's center. What a chore! I guess there is a reason that I am getting this center NOW. I hope to be able to work on it over the weekend; am trying to decide exactly how I will be able to put the next border on it as the fabric I have is going to need to be pieced in order to fit properly. That means I will need a "piecing plan", but I may jsut have to settle for going to the LQS and buying more shamrocks and pumpkins. I just know Michelle is going to love it with all those different holidays/seasons on it, don't you all think so, too??? I believe I may have some electric lime green batik that I could applique with, and perhaps if I found some flourescent oranges/orangey-reds, I could make pumpkins wearing shamrock hats. Michelle, do you have a preference here? Or should I go with turkey colors (red/gold/orange/brown)? I would love to see the room this quilt will occupy when you get it. The decor must really be WILD!!! Odessa |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Well, I got more fabric so I could finish my border on Michelle's quilt. I have a plan now. And I am excited to get to work on this quilt. Vicky, how are you coming on Kate's center? Odessa |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Hi ladies! I have been promised to be laid off at the end of this week!! YIPPY! Okay no pay check will be a little tricky but I need some time to finish my quilting projects LOL Has anything been decided on when to send the blocks back to the original owner?? I mean NO hurry as I still haven't finished Odessa's but I need some motovation :) Just as a heads up - My daughter and I will be out of town April 19th through the 26th. WE ARE GOING TO HAWAII!!!! Sorry to scream but we are sooooo looking forward to it! Been a really long cold winter here..... Hope all are having a great week - I think spring is trying to get a toe in the door here in Wyoming. I saw some weeds with new leaves in my rock garden GRRRRR and the welcoming sight of iris peeking through the snow. Marie |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Marie, I don't know if I should say 'oh no!' or 'woo hoo!'. Being laid off is tough no matter the reason. Hope it all works out ok for you. The Hawaii trip is exciting and worth looking forward to!!! I don't think we can set a date on the quilts yet since Michelle and Vicky both have 2 to finish. Kate |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Yes, they both have 2 to finish, and it's really my fault for taking so much time putting fancyfied howitzers on your center, Kate! I don't want anyone to feel "rushed" to finish, especially since it feels Spring is on its way here, too! I know some of you want to get out into your gardens ..... Realistically, how about if we estimate when we think we can reasonably expect to be finished with these projects? That way we can perhaps target a date? I'll have to look at what I have done and what I have to do yet when I get home tonight then I can give an estimate for myself. How 'bout it, ladies? Odessa |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Don't hate me. . . I'm done and ready to ship whenever you all are. |
there's more...
| | |
| And let me add that Marie's quilt is wonderful!!! If they all turn out 1/2 this good we will all be amazed and pleased. I'm not bragging on what a good job I did on this one, but that ALL of the borders are well done, they tie in to her central theme, the colors work perfectly together... everything. It was fun, doing the last border in the round, to try to tie everything together that had come before my turn. Most of the borders aren't terribly complex so don't think that it really takes dozens of hand appliqued howitzers to make a border nice. (although I'm sure that will be lovely on mine, Odessa!) Odessa, at this point I don't think we can ask anyone to target a date if they haven't seen the quilt yet. How about if you set a date when you expect to finish Michelle's, then Vicky can use that to estimate when she may be able to complete the one she's working on (mine, I think). That will give Michelle an idea of when to expect mine. So, if I have this right... - Michelle only has mine to complete, once she gets it. - Vicky has recently received mine and is waiting on Michelle's, which will be the last one for her. - Odessa is working on Michelle's right now and then will have Vicky's to complete before she is done. - Marie is working on Odessa's and then she's done. - I'm the overachiever who's finished. (I've gotten lots of sewing done while laid up with my fractured foot!) Kate |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| I have Kate's done and ready to mail out. Ready for the next one :-) Now I'm working on Birthday Blocks before starting a King size quilt. Vicky |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
[in my best chipmunk voice] Okay, okay, OH-KAY! Yes, I'm the holdup here. But, in my defense, hand-appliqued, glittered, embroidered and painted Howitzers DID take me a long time to accomplish on Kate's center. I knew Vicky would be able to do her stuff on it MUCH quicker than I did! I am working on Michelle's tonight, and unless something really weird happens, it should be done by Friday. That means I intend to have it in the mail by the weekend, so Vicky, you should have it by Monday or Tuesday at the latest (I'll send it Priority Mail). Then all I have to do is finish Vicky's center. It will likely be done around the 27th (we have performance week for DD's last musical of HS the 17th-21st, so will be working on gypsy robe for that first). Would it be possible to target March 29 for mailing? Or might that be pushing it a bit too much? I know I can be ready with Vicky's by then, providing I don't get an itch to do something else. That means we could have a "grand cyber opening party" around the 3rd of April perhaps? But this date is NOT set in stone, so don't stress if you aren't ready by then. We'll mail when everyone's ready! No need to stress here.] I think it would be cool to all open on the same day so we can post photos, etc. at almost the same time. I am excited to see Marie's finished. I was the first one to put a round on it and I had so much fun with that. I thought it was going to turn out really great and from Kate's enthusiasm, it sounds as if it did! Kate, yours is next up. I know I took such a long time with yours, and I am really sorry that my slowness held up our efforts here, but I am hopeful that you will really like what I was able to do for you. I'm anxious to see what Vicky and Michelle put on it, too, especially since DH wanted me to keep yours and say it got lost or something. (He's the evil twin). Michelle, I am finally settled on a round for your center. It was tough, with all the energy that Kate and Marie put into it. I tried to find a way to make it all come together without throwing the process too far out into left field. I'm hoping you will like what we've all done to it. And Vicky.....dear, dear Vicky. I have only looked at your center once, when I opened the box from Marie, just to get an idea of what had been done to your center. I have been ruminating ideas since then and I have a game plan for you, too. I really think that your son is going to LOVE his quilt. You may need to add a final border or two yourself to get it to be the size he needs, but I really believe everyone has stepped up their games on yours. It is lovely. (Those fly-fishing ballerinas that Marie added are wonderful and they made me smile when I saw them. At first, I thought it was a little quirky, but seeing the smiles on their faces as they waded in the water up to the hems of their tu-tus, some holding fish in nets, some casting ..... well, it's just so outdoorsy! And some day he will probably be interested in girls, so this will give him something to dream on!) Well, ladies, I must get going if I am to get Michelle's center done by tomorrow night. Have to press the fabric and start the cutting process. Hope you all have wonderful quity dreams the next few days! Odessa |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Yes! Lets all open them the same day and time, if possible! If someone doesn't have a camera, maybe they can ask the person who has their quilt last to take a pictue so they can all be posted on the same day. We're closer than I thought! Kate |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Odessa you stated: "And some day he will probably be interested in girls" If hunting and fishing are his first hobby girls are a very close second!!! Yes, it concerns me that he likes them so early (13) but I just keep pointing out those turkey and deer as we drive along! |

hello no worries odessa, I have been buisy the last few weeks re-painting the whole inside of the house. it will be a few weeks still till I get the house on the market. we will start looking at houses next week. I'm about half packed, mostly just have the yard to do(a hugh mess) I will keep my eyes open for kate's michelle |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Okay, Vicky, Michelle's is on it's way to you tomorrow.... it will go in the mail then. I'm done with it. Now, on to yours ..... Thinking, thinking, thinking ..... what can I add to those flyfishing ballerinas that will be spectacular????? Have a good week! Odessa |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
hello I got kate's in the mail yesterday, I decided on a border and got the pieces cut last night, I'm thinking a week will be long enough to finnish it, it I do a little each day. but I think to be on the safe side my ETA for being able to ship would be the 24 or 25th of march. I was in the st patties kinda mood so thought florecent green shamerocs would be great, and with it the last border it will take lots of shamerocs(it is too early, is there K in shamerocks??? or how I was spelling it??) don't worry I will be wide awake when I sew. michelle |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Good thinking, Michelle! Of course I haven't seen it since I mailed it off to Marie last year, but I'm certain you're on the right track! Kate
|
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Kate - are you trying to make me crazy?? I am so looking forward to seeing mine and you just have to tease me don't ya? LOL I am hoping to finish up Odessa's by Monday - we are expecting a nasty (not so little) snow storm that is to arrive tomorrow night & lasting through the weekend - so I shouldn't have a problem with the finishing touches. Or that is the plan :) I am feeling kind of like 'thee' lucky one in the RR - you are all so much more experienced than I am! I have to admit I am checking over all the work done on Odessa's and I know mine wont come close but it has been THE best RR I have ever done. Here's to hoping someone is brave enough to host another - soon :) Marie |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!
| | |
| Marie, that sounds like a dare!!! Actually, I am considering hosting another Round Robin, if anyone is "game" for another one, and if there are more interested this time, perhaps we will have 2 groups. I'm glad to hear that you feel my center is the best RR work you have done. I can honestly say that I have been looking over everyone's efforts on each of these quilts as they get to me, and I am impressed with improvements along the way. Round Robins are tricky: you never know what experience level you will be working with and other people don't have the same "artistic eye" that you have. But if you leave your mind open to whatever comes, you will be surprised at how much you can grow from an experience like this one. I'm glad this has been such fun for everyone, and I really do hope that you will all consider gearing up for RR 2.0. Odessa a quick p.s.: how close is everyone to finishing the last quilt? I know that Kate is done with Marie's, and I am working on Vicky's. Vicky, have you received Michelle's yet? Michelle, are you finished with Kate's? Marie, I hope you can sew with all the snow coming your way. We had 64 degrees yesterday and should be the same today. But much rain predicted for Saturday & Sunday, and maybe some snow mixed in! Hoo-freakin'-rah. Happy Quilting, Odessa |
RE: Round Robin 2009 Begins!

| Well, gals, I pulled Vicky's out last night, following a weekend full of performances for "Annie", and the cast party, etc., etc., etc. I'm totally spent, but my brain is thinking .... thinking .... thinking .... and I believe I have come up with a plan for this center. I will try to make it happen by week's end, and then perhaps we can all mail at once. Marie's flyfishing ballerinas are really hard to top here, but I'm certain that I will come up with something that will bring it all home. Maybe hot air balloons doing a turkey air drop (do you all remember that "WKAR in Cincinnati" thanksgiving episode?)? *giggles* Of course, it would have to be live turkeys on the quilt ... too hard to find pre-packaged frozen ones on fabric! Odessa p.s. I'm getting my tattoo filled in this week: having the color put in to the Samsonite outlines under my eyes. I am soooooooooooo excited! |

| "do you all remember that WKRP in Cincinnati thanksgiving episode?" "As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly!" I remember it well and still laugh when I think of it. I see we are rapidly approaching 150 posts on this thread and that's the limit. Since we are so close to the end I think I'll start another one where we can coordinate shipping and post pictures of the finished products. Let's be sure to leave one final post on this thread so I can post a picture of all of the quilts, like I did at the top of this one. Please go here for the continuing post: Round Robin 2009/10 Ends! Kate Please do not post additional comments on this thread so we have room for pictures of the Round Robin results! Use the link above to get to the continuing thread. Thanks! |

| And here it is! The picture of the finished quilt tops. It was an amazing experience and I'm so glad I was a participant. Thank you to Odessa for starting it, to the Round Robiners for their care, creativity and skill, and to all of you who followed along with us on this fun, fun, fun journey!
