Does anyone have white walls in their kitchen?

Gosh, I haven't posted in forever but this forum is so inspirational. I live in a traditional Cape Cod. The kitchen has hardwood floors, white cabinets, wood counters, white apron sink. It's a dark-ish room with no windows that opens onto a dining room that is mostly windows.

Virtually every kitchen I love has white walls (Mrs Limestone is a good example). I worry that it will be too dingy in the kitchen and too washed out in the DR. My other thought was a light slate gray or grayish brown.

It doesn't help that I have painted twice in 4 years (apple green and pale aqua, neither worked), DH thinks I am nuts. We have two small children and spending time repainting just seems unnecessarily fussy to him. And, white walls with two toddlers also seems a little crazy...but I love the look (I think).

Any thoughts or suggestions are so appreciated!

I gotta go find this Mrs. Limestone's kitchen I keep reading about.

No white walls for me, but I think a very light silvery gray would be lovely! Clean, pale, but fresh and pretty.

How dark are your wood counters? Have you considered a creamy white? There are some lovely shades in that range.

My walls in my kitchen are Cotton Balls by Benjamin Moore. I like it. It is not stark or modern, but it is mostly white. a soft white.

My whole house is neutrals, mostly whites, including these Farrow and Ball colors - Lime WHite, Wimborne White, New White, White Tie and Slipper Satin.

Tell DH I tried 14 shades of blue for my porch ceiling, and gave up and went back to the first one I had tried. : )

I couldn't make a decision about a color so we, too, went with white. BM "Ballet White". I've got a lot of color going on with two bright Persian rugs and always have a vase of flowers. I can't recall EVER painting ANY wall in ANY house white--but it works. Calm.

Mrs. Limestone's was a big inspiration kitchen for me!

Ah, thank you for the input! The counters are oak butcher block in a medium tone. I was thinking creamy white for the walls, our trim in the house is BM Simply White. I've looked at Moonlight White (one step up on the strip from Simply White) as well as some of the ivory/linen white colors BM has. So funny how Mrs Limestone's relatively simple kitchen is so inspiring!

Yes! Our kitchen walls are painted paneling in BM White Heron. Our cabinets are BM Chantilly Lace.

DH really, really wanted white walls. I would have liked a buttery yellow. We have blue ceramic tile floor in the kitchen, so options were limited.

I googled Mrs Limestone's kitchen and it did not appeal to me. Perhaps if there were color in the backsplash, such as in gsciencechick's kitchen, it would work better. I could even see it with colored cabs. It seems more like a progress pic and not a finished look IMHO. The off white cabs and trim look a little dingy next to her walls. I'd go further off white if I were putting it next to a white so that it looks 2 tone and not like 2 batches of paint.

We have white walls in our kitchen, LR, DR, Entryway, bedroom hallway....(we have branched out with color in the bathrooms, and will in the bedrooms, too).

We used BM Super White in Aura paint, matte finish.

Just like cat mom, we have BM super white in every room in our house. Modern, too.

Toddler and kid marks wash off white walls as easily as any color. Just make sure you get a washable finish.

To me, white is definitely brighter and happier. Bright white, not creamy, is the least dingy color, imo.

FYI--I'm not sure if the color in the pics is Super White or White 01 (in BM Regal; Eggshell finish). We'd originally had the walls painted White 01/Regal, but re-painted a couple years later in the Super White/Aura.

I plan to paint my new kitchen walls Farrow and Ball "New White," a truly delicious white that has that, to quote one member of GW, "high fat cream" look. I have white cabinets and wood floors.

hi - we have SW Honed white on the walls and SW dover white on the cabs - I wanted low contrast so the room did not seem choppy. I love the Honied White - it was recc'd in the House Beautiful "favorite decorator paint colors" edition, which is total paint porn. The decorator called it "white with a touch of warm sunshine," We have 2 boys and have not found it any harder to keep clean. HTH!

    hi adan..

    I wasn't familiar with Mrs. Limestone's kitchen. It's lovely..

catmom's kitchen is really a beauty too...I think the white walls are perfect for her kitchen.

I have read in the Colour Me Happy Blog that using white in a dark room doesn't make it bright...the brightness comes from the natural light (windows)..

    Good Luck

    KA:)

Wow, these kitchens are unbelievable!!!! Thank you all for your suggestions, this is very helpful.

kitchenaddict, I have heard that too about white in a low-light room. I wish I could cut a new window in my kitchen (believe me, I have toyed with the idea, tried to reconfigure the layout, etc). Unfortunately I'd be looking into my bathroom or my mudroom, lol!
