It would have been nice had you offered a few opinions about why going to a different format would benefit anyone. Yes, the phpBB software software you suggest is free but what about the costs of moving such a huge site as Gardenweb is to the new format?

The thread you linked to was posted on all forums in the Gardenweb stable and did create changes, two very noticeable. The ability to edit and to add graphics has been very nice.

On some/many sites using phpBB software there is a tendency to attract trolls who are more concerned with post counts than sensible content in a post. Here we have no post count although showing the number of visits per page might be useful.

I like this forums look and feel.

After reviewing the multiple diverse forums within GW, irrespective of the cost to move to php, the work involved would be too much.

I will disagree however that the thread that I linked to was posted on ALL forums in the GW stable.

It was only posted in "The House" category and the "Finances" category under "Money Saving Tips" and in actual fact both are one and the same.

Trolls are not remotely interested in Post Counts but are merely there to flame.

What would be beneficial to the site is, and this has been talked about before, is a Report button regarding Spammers.

Many trolls do indeed post to inflame but in my opinion there are those who feel it essential to boost a post count to impress, even if it is only to impress themselves.

The computer forum here you will notice is mainly populated by older people who would not be classed as geeks but rather people trying to gain the most from their computers so flaming is a rarity.

I along with others do report spammers using the 'Contact us' button on the bottom of the page. Usually i also post to the thread in red font to warn any unsuspecting visitor who may feel inclined to click a link provided by the spammer.

Well actually it was posted to 106 'Garden Forums' and to 42 'Home" Forums.

The new Milkweed Forum has a nice new look and I'm assuming that the existing forums will also get a facelift sometime in the future.

Many of us who have been here a while, have come to really like and prefer GW's format over some other forum's formats.

The new milkweed forums, need some attention to the fonts. They are way too light which doesnt make pleasant reading for anyone that has eye problems, and are hard on the eyes of those of us, that have good eyesight. The fonts on this forum, and other gardenweb forums, is already perfect for most, so they should not have changed that part. The search feature on top is a nice feature. My opinion, anyway. :-))
