Inexpesive freestanding bathtub

piu007

hi all,

We are building a new house and ur style is transitional/modern. I really would like to have a freestanding tub under a large window in the master bathroom{{gwi:807}}. This is, we dont use a bathtub, like ever. We are shower people. So, getting this bathtub is an indulgence, just for looks. Hence, I'd like to go as inexpensive as possible, as long as I get a look I like.
I found this on overstock...
http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Wyndham-Collection-UVA-Free-Standing-Soaking-Bathtub/6462675/product.html

Any experiences with it? Anyone?
I dont need it to be super hardy/long wearing/retain heat, etc. Of course, I dont want it to crack down the middle one fine day or something...
Anyone have suggetions re: other modern-looking freestanding tubs{{gwi:807}} in this price range?
Xposting on the bathroom forum, too.
Many thanks in advance!
piu

We are currently building a new home and we had the same vision for our house.
Here is the tub we ened up buying:

We are taking a gamble as the one we ordered is the first one our local Menards has sold of this particular tub. We picked it up the other day and it seems like it should be just fine! It will be installed in a few weeks so if you would like we can take a photo and post it on here.

Wow, that's a nice looking tub and at a very nice looking price ;).. thank you for the information.
I would really really appreciate a couple of pictures once you're done...would love to see your master bath vision!
Any issues with quality that the store guys told you about (I guess not, since you bought it).
And, do the faucet thingies come included for the $799 price tag?
    Thanks again!

Well, when we asked the salesman at the store he said other tubs made by the same company are solid and hasn't really had any complaints, so that was enough for us to give it a try!
I will definitely follow up on here with some photos once we get done. The drain and overflow do come with the tub. However it is not pre-drilled for faucets since you have the option of deck mounting or doing floor/wall mounted faucets.

Also a shameless plug. My wife has been blogging our whole house building process and here is a link to here "Master Bathroom Inspiration" post.

OP - we got a tub for our build from bathofdistinction.c0m. It's not 'modern' as you wanted but just wanted to give them a littel shout-out for the awesome job they are doing for us.
Met the owner Bill on a vacation trip we had down in tampa area & they are super to deal with.

**ps thanks for the great read too kaljr82 ** looks like you guys are moving @ a good pace! November to Mid January & you are already picking counters! haha.

mtndredux: Tubs as art.. you said it just right!... so i'm not all that crazy!
Its maddening how expensive they get. didnt know, though, that old ones are so cheap. I'll have to look into it. See if I can make them work.
However, a price tag around 1000-1500 is a great improvement over what my designer "roughly estimated"... 6-7K.
Thanks for the other sources,pbx2 and dixie, will check out the websites.

We are looking at some enameled cast iron tubs on the site below. Good luck in your search!

Wow, daisy... I love these! They are just the shape I'm looking for and at even better prices than I found before. I'm glad there are so many choices in this range... they are acrylic though and I'm not sure how they hold up with time... not with use and abuse, but whether they get yellowish with time...

This is a little over your price range, but we are using it in our transitional/trad. bathroom: http://www.signaturehardware.com/product13492

An interior decorator I follow on Pinterest used it in her mom's remodel & is happy with it:

That remodel was more traditional. Our new bath is going to be similar to this:

pin007, i found these reveiws for the Reverie tub that you are considering from Overstock. It seems that it may be difficult to install plus a few other issues. The reviews are divided - some great, some bad

I've got this one on my "plan to buy" list. It's from Vintagetub.com, which is a site others on this board have recommended. Free standing 72" claw tub with the "British Telephone" faucet included at ~$1800 and free shipping.

Has anyone ever had experience with Wyndham collection?

Piu, we haven't purchased it yet. I asked that designer about it, & her mom has been pleased with it. Our other choice was the Kohler Escale Freestanding, which we can purchase thru DH's work for $1,800. We're fairly certain we are going with the Signature tub, though.
