Calling all American Range Owners

Posted by ynsmom (My Page) on

I'm looking into buying a 48" American Range and would love to hear from anyone who owns one. I'm pretty impressed with the information I've come across in my research but would like to find out if its as great as it sounds.

Any information would be greatly appreciate! Thanks!

RE: Calling all American Range Owners

I think there have only been two mentions of owners of American Ranges here. I have mentioned my neighbor who is very happy, and the other person was johnnytugs- I believe he got a 48" ... see this old link, or do a search for American Range.

Here is a link that might be useful: American Range Link

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

johnnytugs - how it the range doing? Let us know!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

bump....any updates?

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

No update. I'm getting ready to place my order next week. Anyone else have an American Range?

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

ynsmom - what are your ordering?

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

I'm ordering the 48" with grill. I really wanted an open burner, but the only one that I really liked was the Jade which everyone has convinced me not to buy. The appliance guy was suggesting Wolf, but I didn't want to go with Wolf. I know that sub-zero bought them, but understood that they only bought the name but not any of the technology or "tooling" (whatever that means). And now after hearing about all the problems with Wolf, I'm glad I didn't go down that road.

I saw the American and was very impressed with it. It looked and felt solid. I also like the fact that American has been making ranges for the professional use. They are one of the few that makes ranges for the professional market and now is making ranges for the residential market.

Let me know if you find anything out about this range.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Will do...I am requesting some info today.

Do we know where they are made?

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Answered my own question - manufactured in CA.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners MORE

ynsmom - I got a copy of the user's manual. If you want met to forward - drop me an email from my page.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

i'm having a problem with 2 burners but the other 4 work great. having a problem getting it fixed so they are sending me a brand new one, but i was in no rush as long as it's here by thanksgiving. supposed to ship this week. wifey's a little annoyed but the vp said he will make it up to us. we'll see and i'll keep u posted. everything else has been outstanding. i think they weren't expecting such an outburst of sales. thats why it took so long to replace.(i believe) and on top of that the jersey distributer(signature marketing) is a waste and because i didn't buy it from him every time they sent him a stove for me, he gave it to someone else.but he's another story.anyway call me if you have any questions.

RE: Calling all American Range Owners

John- thought of you this morning - good luck, hope all goes well.

Hubby is on the way to the distributor to look at the range again. He didn't go the first time. He is going to take a lot of pix and I will post them here for information.

Best wishes...
M

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Here are the pix from today's visit. For some reason, he didn't take any with the burners on but he did test them out.

Also learned the lowest temp on the oven knob is 200 and below that is a "warm" setting.

The layout fo rthe 30 inch is
back left 17000 btu
front left 9000 btu
back right 13000 btu
front right 17000 btu

all burners go to simmer - 140 degrees

Here is a link that might be useful: American Range

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

O.K, So what did he think? After using the Wolf and Berta, you and your Hubby are as expert as anyone- did he like it?

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Well, he did like it. He really wanted to just see it in person and be able to compare it to what we have and what we are considering. He isn't a big cook but he was interested in meeting the distributor and talking about service etc. should we need it.

He has hardly ever even used the Wolf except for the stove top to make noodles for the kiddos. We have been using the grill and the egg for oven type items because of the issues with that. And, the Berta - after one attempt of trying to light the oven...holding...counting...etc, he refused to use it again.

So, not a fair comparison but...for what is worth. He has also looked at the Viking, Blue Star, and DCS. Viking was the only one live besides the American and Wolf. We haven't seen the BS except in a showroom. DCS- only at the Expo.

He did try the American with all the burners on and then turned on the oven to be sure everything worked!

I'll ask him if he had more specific observations...

RE: Calling all American Range Owners

johnny - any news? did it come yet?

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

nope, it got to the new jersey warehouse to late on friday, although they told me it got there thurs. then they told me again it got there friday morning. i guess the tracking numbers aren't worth anything. so it didn't get to their warehouse until 1:00 pm.so i had to beg them to deliver it monday morning. we will see.this is really getting old. i lost 1200. in overtime because it was supposed to be here friday. i guess they saved some money shipping it by mule.i tried to find out why the service guy can't install it for me. that would be the same distributer " signature marketing" that is the new jersey distributer and service representitive. that couldn't fix it the 2nd time.i will post more on this subject soon. so we'll see what happens monday.keep your fingers crossed for me! get the range monday (maybe) thanksgiving thursday.hmmmmm it's gonna be interesting.alexr any problems with your neighbors?

RE: Calling all American Range Owners

oh no! so sorry - I was hoping you were cooking away by now.
Our other range should be leaving soon and will need a replacement pretty quickly.

My fingers are crossed for you!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

No problems with my neighbor's. She likes it A LOT. But I haven't played grand inquisitor to see if there's anything she's picky about. She also bought hers' from Josh. ...I called her- everything is perfect. She likes little things, like the blue indicator lights, it's easy to clean under, the size of the oven, how well lighted it is, the fact that it has wheels in case she has to move it, etc.. She says that the deflector above the oven door gets "a little warm". That's about it. Oh and she was perturbed that it took 2 extra weeks to get it from when it was promised.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Wow, I had not even heard of American Range before this.
I am interested in a colored range, trying to fit in a 48 and I
live in So Cal...so this sounds very promising!

RE: Calling all American Range Owners

john - well....hoping you are a happy cooker by now!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

well it got here at 1:30pm had to wait for my helpers to get here, 591 lbs of lean mean cooking machine.i got her in place by 6:30pm and works like a charm. well everything works anyway.I haven't cooked on it yet, my mother in law came in tonight to start cooking tomorrow for our 30+ seat thanksgiving culinary extravaganza. Then wifey gets in around 6pm and they don't stop till thursday's kick-off.It will definitely be put to the test. It seems that these burners have an even lower simmer, which is cool by me.It also has the island trim which i think is better. the other i think it was a 4" trim and it got kind of discolored from the heat.it was cleanable but took some elbow grease.i was told there were some changes/upgrades to it.oh man the pain pills are kicking in , get back to you soon.
to be continued............ : )

RE: Calling all American Range Owners

John, I'm so glad to hear that you finally got the replacement range AND that it works! Please let us know how the Thanksgiving extravaganza goes! I placed my order for my 48" on Saturday, so I'm really happy to hear everything is working out for you now!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

well thank you ynsmom and congratulations to you as well.who did you order it from?do you know who the distributer is? when is it due to be shipped?mom in law cooked an apple pie this afternoon and it seemed like it cooked quick and came out great.maybe she is just a good cook but it seemed like 20-30 min and it was done.had a "gravy" some say spagetti sauce
going on the smaller burner @ simmer for about 4 hrs and it didn't burn or splash out of the pot.so thats pretty cool.tomorrow i may mess with a pumpkin pie from scratch if i can get near the kitchen.wifey didn't go crazy tonight as she has in the past, she thinks with the 6 burners and 2 ovens that she can get it out in just 1.5 days. we'll see.
happy thanksgiving to you and to all : )

RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Beginning to consider the American Range.

I see from the spec sheet that the range is approx 29 1/2" deep. Can this range be placed flush against the back wall or does it need some clearance in the back?

Also, does anyone know the oven dimensions for the 24" range?

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Hi Johnny!

I ordered mine from Airport Appliance in Hayward, CA. I was going to order from Josh, but since I had originally ordered a Jade cooktop (and all my other appliances) from Airport Appliance then decided against it (they didn't charge me a restocking even though they picked it up already), I just felt it was right to stay with them. The distributor is Sierra Select (same for Jade). I'm told it'll take either 4-6 weeks or 6-8 weeks (I can't remember). I'm not in too much of a hurry. We're in the process of building a house and still have some time before we need all the appliances.

Glad to hear the range seems to be cooking and baking well. I'm also looking forward to the 2 ovens!

Other dealers have had great things to say about American Range! I hope it lives up to the expectations!

Thanks for all your info. I've spoken to you about your range and the problems you've had. Has American given you the accessories they promised to compensate you for all the problems?

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

donnay - the range can fit flush against the wall - it is made for 0 clearance. I have the owner's manual if you would like to read it I can email you. (Email on my page) I also confirmed that nothing special is needed behind the range.

Also, I posted some pictures that show the back if needed for reference.

I am really TRYING to get my plain ol' 30" ordered but my retailer is giving me fits. (Looooooooooong story!)

johnny - that is really great news! I am so glad everything is as it should be. I know your wife must be thrilled.

yns - this place is so funny - gardenweb - I called John too and it was great to be able to talk to an actual user. Matter of fact, when I called American w/other questions I had a few extra questions to ask based on talking with him!

Another big thanks to you jt -

I want to post some other info I found out shortly but really should get ready for work now!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners oven

The 24" oven shows 3.71 cu ft

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Here is some info I learned this week....I've just cut/pasted my list that I had -

Are there additional installation instructions other than what is in the manual? No, they are in the manual.

-I know each burner has a seperate ignitor but do they share a common module? yes, 4 burner module for 30" or 6 burner module for 36"

-can you put the grates in the dishwasher? yes, but season them after cleaned (mineral oil)

-Are there burn in instructions for the oven - (not in manual) - referred to manual but I did not find them yet...didn't see them when I glanced thru. There is a burn in procedure to get rid of oil residue.

-can you manually light the burners if the power is out. (not the oven!) yes

-does the island riser vent up or towards the front? it kind of vents towards front at 45 degree angle. The island riser is the same height as the grates.

-do the knobs come off for cleaning? yes, they are cast iron knobs.

-are the vents on the back of the range for the convection fan? yes, for cooling

-does the cutting board that is listed as an accessory fit on the burners or is it a grill cover for the larger ranges? grill cover for larger, it is a Boos.

-what is the "leg cap"? cap that covers the spindle of the leg to make it more decorative, tiers down, kind of like a trapezoid

-the curb base is an additional piece of ss that covers legs across width of range (not sure if this can be painted if you get a painted range?? didn't ask since we wouldn't get this anyway)

-do we need any type of special prep to the wall behind the range? no

-does the unit need to be on a dedicated power circuit? no

-will this model change any in the very near future? some production changes may be made to improve the manufacturing process but none that will effect the functionality of the range.

-oven can bake, convect, broil, has fan for cool down - you turn it on, doesn't run automatically. To dehydrate - use the fan and lights.

-Also, please verify that the sides are not painted. (the sides are not painted) Also, we are assuming if we order panels and already have the range that we can swap these out ourselves. Is that correct? yes they can custom match any color using Pantone #, RAL # or swatch. Sides are not painted- only front door and bottom panel. It should take someone that has never swapped them out about 15-20 minutes to do. Can be switched at any time.

-still curious where the air intake is for the oven. under the range, at the bottom at floor - vents from back at riser and door top/sides.

-there is a deflector shield that keeps the hot air from hitting the knobs. The knobs will get "warm" but not hot. The door does not get hot.

-the sealed top has a deeper well area - it is designed to hold 20 cups of water if spillover occurs.

-recent updates - the bezel is wider to make sure the knob moves freely, the have added rubber/brass feet on the grates to keep them from scratching. Glass pack for the oven window - more from fabrication issue than functionality.

-there was an issue on earlier models with the ingitor sitting too low for the burner. This has been changed. (johnnyt!) Note-if you order and the item is in stock, might be worth asking when it was manufactured.

-new products are scheduled for Dec 08 - self clean gas and a dual fuel model.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Plumorchard,

Thanks for posting all that info! I'm glad you were able to get answers to all your questions. I have to admit, I haven't done as much research (calling American) as you have.

I am pretty excited about this range! I hope you get your wolf situation resolved soon so you can get your American Range in! Keep us all posted!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Thanks - I am waiting for an answer on "how soon can I get a current model" on Monday. The distributor here has several "current" models, but I'm guessing they might be the first batch. After everything else, I want to be sure we get the one with the most recent improvements.

The distributor says 6 weeks - he doesn't want to pay frt. for just one range, would order it later, etc. I questioned the availability of them now. So we are waiting - which I am so not good at!

Luckily T'Giving is at the Mother In Laws - but I get Christmas morning - I really hope it is here before then.

Who would guess a range could make you so tired!

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Johnny - Be sure and post how everything goes today! Can't wait to hear.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

plumorchard...thank you for all the great info.
Sounds like when I am ready, the new model with
self-clean and dual-fuel will be available.

thanks to johnny for the telephone number. Was the
range just wonderful on Thanksgiving Day??

I am pretty excited about this range, thanks!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

I will be in the market next year for a gas range. I was initially considering the wolf but thanks to the info on the forum, i will be staying away from wolf. The American RAnge has grabbed my interest. Can anyone tell me the cost of a 36" 6 burner American Range?? Thank.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

I googled the 36" and got $4999. Colors should add about $199. That should give you a ball park to start with.

I really hope to get ours (30") ordered this week!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Just spoke with American Range questioning the new self-clean and dual fuel models. They are expected in December of NEXT year...I was thinking after I read December that it was this year but its not.

I was quoted from a local distributor about 6500.00 for a 48 in color.

I haven't cleaned an oven without self-clean in a very long time, I hope I won't regret it!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

They list cleaning instructions in the manual for the manual clean oven. Also, I've heard Dawn Power Dissolver is very good and there is always Fume Free Easy Off. Some things can also cook off....

I think the top will be a breeze with the ss seamless top - I keep telling myself I will never have black porcelain again! What a pain!

Let us know what you decide....

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Yeah!! Just had confirmation from the retailer that our order did go in yesterday. We are still working with a 3 week time frame, but hoping it will be sooner since we will be "rangeless" next week.

I did find out (after trying to order them) that casters are NOT available in place of the front legs. This is a safety issue.

Hoping that trip from CA to GA is a short one....

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

sorry i am so late in getting you up to date. the range worked great for thanksgiving still having a problem with the left rear burner igniting when it's cold but they are sending me a new burner assembly, i will install it when i get home on dec. 12. otherwise everything worked well the ovens preheated quick. clean up was pretty easy (wifey didn't complain about it anyway)so it's still thumbs up.
congrats ynsmom and plumorchard i really think you will be satisfied with the performance and the feel of it.and i did recieve the cutting board i'm still waiting for the griddle cover. i really like the island trim better then the 4" rise it seems to disperse the heat better not to mention it looks a lot better in my opinion.i'm still waiting for my cabinets for that wall and the hood. i cancelled that stuff when i was a little ticked off & considering a different range when i was having the problems so when i get it all together i will try and get ya some pictures.
best of luck and let me know how your comming along as i will do the same.

p.s. make sure you get a tracking number when it's shipped. conway freight seems to be the best when tracking your delivery.the second trucking co. vision express was for the birds. they posted that they tried to deliver it when it wasn't even at the terminal yet. and they lied twice saying that it was in the terminal when it hadn't arrived yet.go figure.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

John - Hi- Great to hear from you! Thanks for checking in...Take care -
M

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Well the gas line got moved today for the American. Used the manual and photos I had taken so fingers crossed that it is right. We went ahead with the line move because the plumber had some free time and we thought the other range would be picked up today. Wanted to be sure it was done before the new range was here.

We are so ready! Still no word on whether or not it has shipped. I'm hoping it is on its way South!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Thanks guys for all the good info! We made the decision and ordered the 36" American with 6 burners from Josh at Dvorson's today. He has been very helpful and responsive. We had the installer come this morning for an estimate on getting it into the house(we are on a hill) and moving the gas line so it is recessed into the wall. So the range can be flush to the back wall. It will already stick out a few inches from our cabinets but without moving the gas line it would have been too much. We're scheduled for arrival next Wednesday so here's hoping it all goes well. With 6 burners and that big oven we should be a go for Christmas dinner for 17.
Did anyone buy an extended warranty? Do you think it is necessary?

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

mcferg - Congrats!

We moved our gas line from the floor to the wall too. We only had to move it over a few inches to be in the right place according to the specs. It seems it was just about where the wheel would be if we left it where it was. The range has a flat back and an open area at the bottom where the gas connects. If you are at the wall, it should go back pretty far. (I have a pix of the back of a 30" if you need it). Our cost was $220. It took him about an hour to do.

Can't wait to hear more! Hopefully we will be cooking about the same time!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Our installer is going to do the delivery and hookup and move the gas line next Wednesday. When he moved our 40" range to look behind it we realized that the tilework behind the range doesn't go all the way down and won't cover the wall behind the new range as it only has the 4" riser. so we are going to have to get creative with that and the 2 inches on each side of the range. An interesting challenge. We built this house 23 years ago and if we had any extra tiles I think we threw them out a long time ago.
Still I'm really looking forward to a convection oven and one that works and burners that light!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

damn you guys are gettin me excited all over again. i remember that feeling all to well. happy holidays to you all. i get home tomorrow and the parts arrived the other day so i should be in business tomorrow night. mcferg it's really a nice piece of equiptment and the oven wooooooooohoooooo.please let me know how it goes, plumorchard why don't you call and see if it was shipped? don't forget the tracking #. if you get the purchase order #from the dealer you can call A.R. and ck that way. i have my fingers crossed for ya! keep us posted.
john

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

john - that is the frustrating part! I know for a fact that it shipped Thursday. Can't get the darn retailer here to give me any info. I don't know if that is the fault of the retailer or the distributor. Probably a bit of both - it is about to get on my last nerve though!

Let me know how your repairs go!
M Happy Holidays and Happy Cooking to you too! (Are you home for the holidays now? Hope you get some family time.)

PS - I would have seriously considered buying from Dvorson's but I found out service is handled through the same distributor here that we are purchasing through so I thought (after your situation) it would be better to keep it in the region!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

mcferg - seems we are delayed a bit here....please post if you get your range hooked up and running today! Can't wait to hear!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

I'M COOKING!! It's beautiful!! I made a stir fry tonight and it worked great. The whole thing went really smooth. Josh at Dvorson's was great, good price and he had it available at a local warehouse for pickup on time. Our installer was a local guy who picked it up and got it up our hill just fine. We were afraid it would look too big in our smallish kitchen but it looks great. We still have to figure out our tile trim in the back and get a new vent hood. Any ideas? I'd love one that isn't too noisy but reasonable in price.
Johnnytugs, have you figured out which burners are best for certain things? the 36" has 3 -18000btu, 2 -13000 and 1 -9000. I've never had such a range of choices.
Plumorchard, I hope the delay is short and you are cooking soon. I'll look forward to hearing. It's great!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Hey, Congratulations!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

mcferg626,
congratulations, thats great news! now ya gotta post some pics. maybe if we see what yer up against the ideas will start to flow.i don't have a clue which burner is for what. if i remember, i'll call my buddy in fla. who's a chef & see what he says.
plumorchard did you call the distributer and ask what the deal is? i put mine on my amex. so if i have a problem they get results. call the dist & tell'm if you don't get a tracking number 1 hr before the end of business day your canceling the order.
my burner still doesn't work, i shot him an email we'll see what happens.just another day in paradise......... : )
i'm home until 12/26 merry christmas to you ! it's christmas time in the city.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

mcferg - Congrats! I'm jealous....keep us up to date and do post pictures. We got our hood from Modern Aire - they have lots of different styles. (See below)

Johnny - Hey - we did hear from American today. Still no tracking number from the retailer/distributor though. But I do know it is in transit. Late yesterday a.m., I did get a call from the retailer but by the time I heard from them I had already heard from American. I am impressed with the response I get from American....less than so with my retailer and the area distributor.

I do hate to hear you are having issues still. After the issues with the Wolf it makes me nervous. Let us know & a very Merry Christmas to you too!

Here is a picture - Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Well...Friday am...guessing it won't be this week. That leaves 5 days before the cooking marathon that is next weekend before Christmas.

A bit nervous but still hoping it makes it in time. Otherwise, we will have to make some serious adjustments to cooking times/processes with the set up we have now. And, after a nice warm spell in ATL it is getting colder too so we won't use the grill as much as a back up oven.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

plumorchard, is that soapstone on the countertop? whatever it is it looks great! are you happy with it?

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

louisa - yes, that is soapstone - unoiled for a few weeks too. Thanks! And, yes we love it. I especially love putting hot things on it direct from the oven. Ours is Tulkivi.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

plumochard,
why won't they give you a tracking number? that is very strange. sounds like a bunch of b.s. if it's any consolation it took five days to get from cali. to me here in jersey. is that your wolf pic?i do love those knobs.nice set up. my fingers are crossed for you. remember the squeaky wheel gets the oil.(is that the saying?) give them hell!one thing i learned with all this is that when a tracking number isn't issued, the range/parts/ weren't sent. don't let them snow ball you. keep the faith!
john

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Plum, so sorry this is taking time. Love your green cabs, soapstone and your hood. What is your hood? Are you pleased with it?

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

john - I received the tracking number Friday afternoon. I also spoke to the distributor yesterday. It is due in ATL today but won't get to the dealer until Monday since they are closed on Sat. We are hoping for a Tuesday delivery. My fingers are crossed. I will let you know!

Yes, that is the Wolf in the picture. It is sitting out so far because the gas line was already moved for the American. I do love those red knobs but I can not wait to get that thing outta here!

eandhl - thanks! The hood is from Modern-aire - Model PS-26. We love it. Ours is recirculating but had no choice. They do offer many styles.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

plumorchard I love your kitchen, your colors are wonderful! Just curious, I may have missed it earlier, but are you getting a color or SS?

Also, is a recirculating hood one that does not vent outside?

I am really considering a 48 in color...still a little worried about paying so much for a new range and NOT having self-clean.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Plum, your kitchen looks great. I'm happy to hear your have an arrival date. Like the hood too. that's our next project. I will look at the Modern-aire. I love our new range. Having never used a pro type before, I feel like I'm learning to cook all over again. I don't know what BTU's we had before but it was pretty low compared to the American. Even though all the new burners are supposed to go down to 140 degrees, it still seems pretty high. My neighbor who has a wolf uses a simmer plate. I'm thinking I need one of those to use if I just want to keep something warm. We haven't used the oven yet. We have to do the pre-cooking burn off of the oil(?) they put on it. Will do that tomorrow so we can get baking and broiling next. Brought Christmas tree home today, will be decorating tomorrow!
Hope all goes well for you on Monday!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

vicnsb - thanks! Yes, I am getting the color panels. I had ordered samples a while back of the sapphire blue, bangle red, and beige - I only received the red and it was too true of a red for all the other colors I've got going on (but really pretty!). I requested the others again but had to move forward with the order without the samples. It is so hard to tell from the computer screens and sell sheets.

We went ahead and ordered the blue panels but if they don't work I will try again later. I think it is pretty cool you can change them out if you want to. I was trying to stay in the standard color choices but am not opposed to considering custom colors later down the road.

Yes, our hood does not vent outside. There was an over the range microwave there prior and a room above on an interior wall so we could not vent to the outside. (seems to be a standard around here) There is a small vent at the top that the air comes back out of.

The 48 in color would be awesome! What color(s) are you considering? I was hesitant about the lack of self clean too until I just decided I really didn't want any touch pad control on the range. It drives me nuts to have to keep punching the temp setting to get to where I want to be...so that ruled out a lot of the self cleaning ovens that were in our price range. Then I did some more research and just decided I would rather have some of the other features than a self clean function. My guess too will be the self clean will be a bit more $$!

mcferg - thanks to you too! Let me know how the baking goes and if the burn in is awful or OK. Need to plan that for a night when the kiddos are out. I'll look at the simmer burners when it comes. I cooked some chili and soup this am on the Wolf and the simmer is pretty low...that will give me a comparison point. I will let you know. Maybe it just needs adjustment?

More soon...I hope!

RE: Calling all American Range Owners

We did the burn off today. It was a nice day so we opened the windows and the doors. I used a fan by the window to draw out the smell. It was pretty strong. I followed the directions and did it on bake at 450 for 30 minutes and on broil for 30 minutes. FYI, with the broiler on that long, it got so hot it turned itself off. but I just opened the door to cool it off for a minute and it came back on. I let it cool down with the oven fan on and then repeated the process for 15 minutes each and the smell was gone by then. I would definitely recommend doing it on a day when you can have the doors and windows open. the portable fan really helped cause our over the range hood is old and not very effective.

RE: Calling all American Range Owners

I am more than ticked off at the Atlanta dealer at this point. Spoke to them at 11:30 this am to see if our range had arrived. They told me it had not. We chatted a bit and he assured me he would call the minute it arrived so we could schedule delivery Tues if needed. I just checked tracking info online and the number didn't work anymore so I called the shipping company. They said it was delivered at 12:15 today. 45 minutes after I talked to him. No one ever called!!! GRRRRR - I've said this before but again, if we were not involved in the buy back from Wolf we would not have used this dealer. This is so frustrating. Now they haven't scheduled anything with me and I need to make arrangements with work - if I knew a time! I have no idea if it will be Tues or when....unfortunately, I'm at the mercy of these folks!

Also note - this is a dealer issue - and not the first I have had with them not returning calls and a few other things - not an American issue (except for they represent them)

RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Hey all...it is here! Still sitting in the middle of the floor until the plumber can make a visit. The installers had no parts and we could not get hooked up today. So yea!...it is here! More to follow -

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

PLUM, CONGRATS ON YOUR NEW RANGE!

So how do you like the look and feel? I can't wait to hear how the cooking is!

Do you have tile on the wall behind the range area? I've read some postings about tile behind the range. Is the necessary?

Keep us posted!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Awesome! Just in time for Christmas!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

I want to let everyone out there know I installed my 30" American range last week and I love it. It is by far the best range I have owned. It far superior to the Viking, GE Profile, and Kitchen-Aid Architect ranges I've had in the past at previous homes.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

yns - I posted earlier but it didn't show up. Sorry if this duplicates!

I love the way it looks - and after cleaning the top of the Wolf before they picked it up I can tell you I love the seamless top in ss - it seems like it will be soooo much easier to wipe down after using the range. I found cleaning the black top of the previous range a challenge.

We do not have tile behind the range. Just sheetrock. I did ask prior to installation if we needed anything and we didn't. It is designed for zero clearance so you should be fine. Our tile should hit right at the island riser.

Jeff - more info! What size did you get? That is great that you are so thrilled. I can't wait....

alexr - fingers are crossed! this is it!

RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Plum-

Who did you order your American Range through? I am in Atlanta also and am considering getting a 48" American Range.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

plumorchard congratulations dear, you must be going crazy not having it installed. what parts were they missing? the gas line or the male end from the stove? well at least you have it that's half the battle! looking forward to an update.
don't for get to put in a review of your experience with your dealer in Epinions.com

jeff8407 congrats to you as well, it's a great machine. keep us posted.

amg_roadster i live in new jersey and used josh dvorson @ dvorsons food service equipment in california. great price and a stand-up guy. no problem getting thru to him at all.
oh , i have a 48" american range.best of luck to you and merry christmas to all.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Plum....Great news! I'm so glad it arrived. You'll be hooked up soon and ready to go for the holiday.
We are still getting acquainted with all the different burner options and it's working great. The sealed top is so easy to clean. We haven't used the oven yet. I think I'd better try roasting a chicken before making the turkey for Christmas dinner, just to see how it works. Convection or no convection, that is the question. Any thoughts? I've never used convection before.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

amg roadster - what part of ATL are you in? We are in Canton. You can email me offline (go to my page next to the name and click the email option) and I will share dealer info. That said, I purchased through Guy Gunter & Assoc in Atlanta. They do not have a range on site to look at. I was involved in a buy back from Wolf and that was the dealer that handled that transaction. It seemed easier to do the exchange with them. I don't think American ranges are in any showrooms yet here.

My husband and I both went to Empire to see the range - two different visits. They are the distributor for American. They were more than helpful. They are off Fulton Ind Blvd. Send that email and I will give you contact info.

Are you considering other models? If so, which dealers are you shopping with - the reason I ask is you might could buy through them if they can connect with the distributor.

Also, Johnny mentions Dvorson's but they are under a different distributor than here. Which could come in to play if you ever need service. Service for ATL is handled by Empire. Which means if you purchase somewhere out of area and need service in area "might" be an issue. I did call Dvorson's but was hesitant to go that route because of past experiences needing service (Wolf). The dealer in that case was a large help in getting resolution. I decided to keep it in the market. But I do hope to hear from you....

john - thanks! :) So silly really, but I am so excited! We were missing the male/male nipple that connects the hose and the gas line...we decided to use the Dormont quick disconnect gas hose system since we seem to move the range a lot (hope that is over!)and it needed that small little piece. Turned out to be ok because we had to move the electrical (again!) so it would fit properly and patch the floor boards where the gas line had moved. So now it is all ready! Hoping the gas line fits ok since it is a little high. I forgot about epinions - good idea. Oh, hey check out chowhound sometime. There is a section called cookware.

Anyone have to adjust the height of the range? Was it a pain or easy enough to do? And, then the anti tip and we are done! The kids are out of the house tonight so maybe I can do the burn off. Which means cook something Thursday! If it gets in place today, I will post some pictures too.
mcferg - I think! that turkey is no convection but can't swear to it. Seems like the air would dry it out a bit. Hope someone else can answer for you too. I'll ask around too.

RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Plum...We ordered a 30" range throught Universal Appliance in L.A. Dvorson's quoted me a better price, but it was cheaper to drive to L.A (90 miles) and pick it up when I accounted for shipping. My wife has remarked that the cooktop is very easy to clean as compared to our previous Viking and Kitchen-Aid. The oven heats quickly and does a very good job.

The only real comparison when we were shopping was the Bluestar. We stayed away from the Bluestar because it was 1K more and my children liked the indicator lights that go on when the burners are on on the American--they burned themselves on our previous range that didn't have any indicators. The Bluestar doesn't have those. Sounds like a simple thing, but I'd rather have my kids comfortable in the kitchen than worrying that they will burn themselves.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

jeff - know what you mean about those indicator lights. The Wolf didn't have them either and just the other day I had something on simmer, moved it off and got distracted (I know, I know) but just a second later, I leaned over to do something else and noticed the darn thing was still on. I did love those blue lights this am. Oh, and I love, love that they don't have stopping points on the knobs. Another simple thing but much appreciated and so much easier to adjust.

I have some photos I will post in a minute...

RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Plum-

Congrats on getting the range in!

I will send you an email offline.

I am not sure if you are aware of this or not but we do have (at least) 2 distributors in Atlanta. I have spoken with both of them. Only one is listed on the American Range website but when I called and spoke to them they had yet to recieve any units and put me in touch with the other distributor. Both of the distributors in town seemed to be very good and easy to work with. They both invited me in to look at the units and were more than happy to answer any and all questions I had.

I have been considering Capital and Bluestar in addition to the American Range but for the price and features the American looks like a winner. Although the wife really likes the red knobs from the Wolf ranges.

Currently debating the griddle vs. the grill. The griddle is nice because it basically has two burners heating it. Funny thing is both the distributors were big on the Griddles.

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions.

Johnny - I will check out Dvorsons.

We are probably 2 months away from breaking ground so plenty of time to make the decisions on the ranges and figure out the whole hood thing.

Keep the info and feedback on the American Ranges coming.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

amg - Who other than Empire? Dealer or Distributor?

Loved those red knobs myself. But our Wolf was just repurchased by the company. I would be hesitant of that until they can identify and resolve whatever issue they are having with the '07 ranges. There are 3 or 4 threads online with people having issues.

RE- Blue Star - also, only one dealer in ATL that I found. I was also told there were some issues with service here. I'm not sure if that was before/after the recent changes in the service structure for them. That was when we were shopping before and purchased the Wolf. I had talked to some folks in different states that carried Blue Star but decided that for the way we use the range, American was a better fit for our family.

I guess if I had the choice, I would pick griddle over grill. We can grill out a lot (not today, brrr!) but a griddle would be fun to have. But it will have to be what you will get the most use of.

We did the burn in tonight. It wasn't awful but it wasn't great. The smell is noticeable and does linger-but remember I have no outside ventilation either. So - we opened the windows and that helped some. There were some pops in the oven but sounded normal. Then I heated a frozen dinner on the burner and everything worked fine so far.

I was even able to turn the oven on at the same time as the burners!! (Issues w/previous range!)

So far, so good. Still waiting on them to come back to raise it up and level it and put in the anti-tip. Waiting on return phone calls.

I did notice a couple of small scratches that were either done by the installers yesterday or the plumber today (but he was behind the range, not in front of it) and that kind of bummed me. I know it will get scratched, just wish it was me that had done it and not someone else. Dang it. (teeny really, but still!) They weren't there when it arrived because I checked it.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

good news, plumorchard i'm glad u got it working. it's very easy to level you put a level (24-48" depending on range size)across the front,if the bubble is to the left of center you turn the leg on the right clockwise i believe, to raise the right side.if the bubble is right of center you raise the legs on left side. then you move the level from front to back ( left side & right side)if the bubble is towards the front then you raise the back legs (clockwise) if the bubble favors the back wall adjust the front legs clockwise to raise the front.re check level across the front again then put the level on an angle across the corners to double check after the adjustment.
i'm not sure about the anti-tip brackets i believe they have to hit a beam. thats how i set mine up.

regarding the scratches, on the back panel of the stove try duplicating the scratch then use a polishing compound to try and get it out. if that doesn't work add some sugar to the poishing compound on the rag and try again. if it works then use the straight polishing compound afterwards.that's if the scratch is in the stainless. call A.R. and ask bert if you can do that on the colored panels. tape the phone call for quality assurance.just incase it doesn't turn out well, there will be no he said she said.

as far as the service goes, each distributer that offers service, is an authorized service representitive for american range.if they refuse to service that unit and it is under warranty either american range and/or the distributer is legally liable. i am investigating that now. just as if you bought a new car and it's under warranty any authorized (chevrolet for example) dealership must fix the vehicle.

i can't wait to grab this guy in new jersey.
what if i bought my stove, say when i lived in california and moved to n.y./ n.j. and took it with me & it needed sevice??

amg i have a griddle on mine and it works just fine, although i don't get to use it as much as i'd like. i enjoy it when i do. the island trim is better when having the griddle. on my first range it had the 4" rise and would discolor from the heat. the island trim IMO works and looks better.

p.s. how do you like the oven lights and fan? see if you can remove the bulb cover in the oven. i can't get one of mine off. thanks : )

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

john - thanks! We need to raise that range about 1" to be at the right ht for the countertops. Don't you have to tilt it each time to adjust a leg. If so, that is why we are waiting on the original installers. They kind of just left it sitting when they found out they didn't have the part. The anti tip is after the ht because it depends where it hits on the wall.

I agree that they "should" service the range and it would probably be ok but I have had such a run of bad luck that I knew if we had issues it could get to be a hassle.

I will also try the scratches later....not brave enough now. We don't have the panels yet. They are on the landing piece in front of the burners - on top. One on the left and one on the right.

Question about the burn in - went to put the racks back in this am and noticed the rack glides are peeling! Need to get that replaced I guess. Anyone else have this issue with the glides?

I tried the light and it seemed to turn a little - does it screw off? It was moving to the left.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

To update- American is sending new rack guides...they should not have peeled.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Plum- I believe the other Distributor in Atlanta I spoke with was Madisco.

When we install range we will also be installing a hood venting outdoors so we should have adequate ventilation for both the break-in and grilling.

To be honest I do not know how much we will use either the grill or the griddle. So the grill is a 12" 15,000 BTU burner and the griddle is a 20,000 BTU burner.

I have a grill outdoors that I would probably use most of the time but I can also simply get a griddle pan for indoors. There is also the fact that I can use the broiler to cook meat.

I am looking forward to the 6 burners. It is not all that unusual to fill up the current 4 burners we have.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

amg - I only dealt with Empire Distributors and Guy Gunter (the dealer) with our range. I guess they've added another. Still not sure if there are dealers set up yet.

What part of town are you in? When do you anticipate completion, etc? Sounds like you will be busy!

6 burners does sound like fun!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

thats a bummer , no peeling on mine that i know of, gonna go ck now............nope still good.
when i raised mine, i just put an adjustable wrench on the bottom of the leg and turned.when it got really hard i went to the next.if someone can take some weight off the one your adjusting it will be easier. i believe the legs can be adjusted to 1.5 inches from the original height.i just checked my legs and the wrench size is over 1" thats why i used a cresent wrench (also called an adjustable wrench i had a 10" cresent / adjustable wrench and it worked fine.do you have wheels on the back or legs? if you want me to talk you thru it feel free to give me a call.
my light covers just barely move. can't get them off. and one bulb is out. but when they both work ,she lights up like crazy.
when you try the scratch fix try it on the back first!
happy cooking,
john

RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Plum we live ITP (for those of you not in Atlanta ITP = Inside the Permiter) in Druid Hills.

No completion date yet. We are expanding the house which includes a new kitchen and are not able to get before the historic commision until January.

We spent a couple of hours today at a kitchen design house to select cabinets and design our layout.

We will be adding the American Range to our Subzero Refrig and our LG Dishwasher.

I am thinking I have decided on the grill instead of the griddle.

Plum I might have to invite myseld and my wife to your house to check out your range ;)

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

amg - we are OTP, (Outside the Perimeter) but not too far. We are in Woodstock. Ya'll just c'mon up! (Couldn't resist) But seriously, if you want to visit we can arrange something!

I'm cleaning my entire kitchen, including oiling the soapstone, so I can post some decent pictures. Might be in the am, it was a mess.

The installers came back this evening and leveled the range. It needed to go up about an inch. It took both of the guys to do it and one was under the range while the other held it up - kind of scary - so I didn't watch. I really wanted them to finish it out since they kind of left it. I think now, if we had to, we could do the minor adjustments. It just had such a long way to go. They did level the range and we discovered (already kind of figured it) that our counter tops are not level (probably the cabinets) so the back of the range looks like it sits up higher than the front a little but it is actually the counter tops. I decided I would rather have the oven level so things would cook right. It also stopped the oven racks from rattling (they made a bit of a noise when it wasn't level when you walked by the range!)

And, there is a small gap where the difference of the Wolf and American in width was off just a bit. They didn't install the anti-tip. They were determined we didn't need it. He kept showing my husband how much pressure he could put on the door, etc. By that time I was upstairs getting the shower ready for my son. It does feel sturdy and we can add it if needed. Had to make them bring it back from the truck where they took it??? so we could have it here. (My guess is they just wanted to be done!)

The leg caps for the front still look good but they looked better when it was lower (36") and covered the whole leg. Now a little bit shows below but you can't really notice. I will put a picture of that in the link too.

Anyway they didn't get here until about 6. So our first "real" meal was.......drum roll.....
hamburger helper (hubby), mac and cheese (my son) and left over Publix chicken fingers. I promise to cook something worthy of the range this weekend!

I will tell you though it boiled water great and simmered the HH like a charm. And, it was so easy to wipe down and clean up. I am thrilled and so glad it is finally here, hooked up and in its place. Looking forward to a long run with this one!

More later...I think the floors are dry!

We have friends that live up in your area of town.

I am looking forward to your reviews after cooking a "worthy" meal.

Looks good!! Love your first meal--that's too funny!!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Plum, it looks great. glad you are finally cooking. I really like the look and feel of this range. it's very sturdy and substantial but kind of sleek at the same time. I haven't had a chance to use the oven yet but my daughter just home from college has been baking great cookies for two days straight. Everything is working well. The only question I have is whether the simmer temperature should be lower. I bought a simmer plate so I have the option of just keeping things warm. I haven't used it yet.
Josh from Dvorson's called yesterday to check on how the installation went and how the range is working. Nice service from him. He thought the small burner was supposed to go down to the lowest simmer. I thought all the burners went down to the same low. Either way it's not as low as I expected. Josh is having the American Range service rep email me about it. Maybe it can be adjusted.
I'm not sure our range is completely level, it looks a little off to me. I'm going to check it tomorrow. Is it hard to adjust it? The 36" weighs over 400 pounds.
It would be a minor adjustment if necessary.
Happy cooking!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

mcferg and plum, I am so glad to hear that your range is working well and everything looks good.

Plum - beautiful pictures!

Its funny, when I first started looking at ranges, American Range wasn't discussed much, but now, its being so well received by people who have bought them. The fact that people who owned Wolf is replacing them with American AND is very happy with it, tells me that the quality of the American Range is top notch. American Range is on its way to making a name in the residential market!

Glad I ordered an American Range!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

OK...this is a little better than last night! I'm gearing up for the next few days...

Salisbury Steak, Rice, Cornbread, Cooked Carrots - everything went like it should. The rice simmered fine, carrots came to boil nicely, and the cornbread was yummy...didn't even burn the bottom! And, the best part? I could do it all at the same time. (Little reference to the Wolf problem, sorry! but we are so pleased!) And the grease splatters just wiped right up.

The oven still does smell a bit weird - like it did during burn off...hope that goes away soon. Those blue lights look cool though when everything is on!

mcferg - all burners should go to the same simmer. Does one look higher than the others on simmer, or do they all look the same? Oh, and for the cookies is she using convection or just baking? We didn't adjust ours the first time, we had the installers do it but it seems it is just a matter of turning the legs or casters. Be sure and check front/back and side/side. I don't think our previous range was level because things would always cook faster in one spot on a certain burner. But they had leveled it to the counter tops. I could tell a difference in cooking tonight that it seems level (even if it pokes up at the back!)

ynsmom - I can't wait (I know you can't) until you get your range in and cooking! Isn't it next week?

I know you will be so thrilled with it. Outside of the range, we have been so impressed with American as a company too. It has been such a difference (and relief) after our previous experience.

Off to the store to buy more stuff to cook!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

I checked the burners and the simmer on the larger burners is less hot than the smaller ones as it is more diffused. My back right burner is very high when it's on high and doesn't go very low. Surprisingly the smallest burner is noticeably hotter than the larger ones on simmer. Are yours all the same? I'm thinking they can be adjusted. Maybe the installer didn't do something right. I haven't heard from the American service rep yet but expect it will be after the holiday. it's not a huge deal as the simmer plate should work to just keep something warm.
Plum, my daughter used the regular oven for the cookies. We haven't tried the convection yet. I'm still trying to decide whether to cook the turkey on convection or regular.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

I will look at the simmer burners this evening to see if they "look" the same. I did use simmer this weekend but it was the back right and I didn't have any problems. How did the simmer plate do?

We kept the range busy some on Sunday, all day Christmas Eve and Christmas morning. I made two casseroles, sausage balls, clam chowder, corn pudding, chess pie, crawfish dip, cookies, bacon and more. The range worked like a charm!

The only that wasn't "great" were the cookies. But, I think we (me and my son) didn't do something right since I had help! They were too dry. I did most on regular bake, one batch on convection for a shorter time but they almost burned so I didn't do that again. I will try again later.

Clean up was easy, easy, easy!

I love this range!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Wow, we cooked up a storm yesterday! It was great. The range was fantastic and alot of fun to cook on. We made dinner for 16 and we had it all going. I did the turkey on convection and it turned out very moist inside and crisp on the outside. The oven size is so great. We were able to warm up appetizers and baguettes while the turkey was cooking. We bought a countertop Dacor convection microwave the day before Christmas so we had a second oven. It's also quite large inside and we made a deep dish pumpkin pie which turned out delicious. We also used it to cook the stuffed mushroom appetizers. It has a rack you can put it so you can cook convection on two levels. It was insane but so much fun.
FYI the american range service rep called me this morning and said I could get a lower flame by tuning the knob clockwise after lighting. I tried it and it works great. You can get the flame quite low. I'm very relieved about that issue. He said the company was going to come out with new knobs that have that low setting on it and he would send me a set of new knobs when they become available. Nice service from Josh at Dvorson's and American so far.
Happy cooking!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

mcferg - our knobs have max to simmer with a line from one to the other. Is that what yours have? I think my go counterclockwise. I'm glad that got back to you so quickly. Did they look like this (not a great pix but you can see the Max starting point...)Photobucket

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Plum, The knobs on mine look the same. But if you go to the flame sign to light and instead of going counterclockwise from max to simmer, you can slowly go back turning clockwise and the flame will slowly go down to very low if you just want to keep something warm.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

I will give it a try....

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

bump

ynsmom any word yet? it should be getting close

mcferg626 Thats pretty nifty (the knob to the left thing)i have to try that on mine when i get home.

plumorchard i baked about 2 dozen cookies and a brownie pie (my own invention with the excess soft cookie mix) last week, they came out ok all from scratch but i wasn't really paying attention closely.
the brownie pie was on the money!

A happy and healthy new year to you all. :)
john

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

mcferg - I tried the counterclockwise thing last night and was able to get it too a pretty low burn, but it was tricky between that and off - is that the way yours is? And, is it lower than your simmer? I couldn't really tell if it was truly lower. (By doing that isn't it just on it's way to "off"?)

And, another Happy New Year to all!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Hi
yes, it is tricky. I find it is lower but you have to go very slowly clockwise in small increments to get it lower than simmer and not get the clicking sound. It's good for just keeping things warm. I made a great Roast Chicken in the oven with convection last night. It was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. We are really enjoying this range.
Happy New Year to all!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

amg - I did find out the Empire Equipment is the only distributor for Atlanta. From what I found, Madisco was the distributor for the commercial line for some time. That is why it is shown on the web site. It would seem they need to update the web site so that Empire is shown.

We were able to go to the Empire warehouse and see the range. They do have one there that is connected. The dealer is Guy Gunter & Associates in ATL. I think they have the range there, but not hooked up.

We are really enjoying ours. Still lovin' it!

mcferg - I did try the low/keep warm last night but it was too close to off and clicking a little. I am very anti-clicking right now so I just gave up but I will play with it some more. Might try a simmer plate at some point too.

Does your oven pop when it is heating? Ours does, usually just once, but it makes me jump every time!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Yes, our oven not only pops occasionally, I'd have to say it sometimes "growls" when it is heating or just stopped heating. It's a weird sound but not a bad one, just funny.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Yep I know that sound. It isn't even loud it is just like a little hum or mumble. Not an ongoing thing - just a couple of seconds. Like you said, it isn't bad, just funny. My husband doesn't even hear it though.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Happy New Year to all!

I've been on vacation with the family so I haven't been checking in.

Johnnytugs, I think my range is in at the dealer's. I have a call into them to find out when it will be delivered. I'm not in too much of a rush. My house is not complete yet, so I can't move in yet. But I can't wait to see all my appliances in the kitchen! I have a 48" coming and looking at the "hole" where the range goes, it looks small, but I remember the range looking big. Can't wait to see the whole kitchen put together!

Its great to hear that all the new ranges worked well during the holidays! Its a good sign that they survived the cooking / baking marathon!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

thank you ynsmom,
happy new year to you as well and welcome back.what is the completion date for your house? i believe the 48" measures 47 7/8 wide. might want to check on the size of the space allowed for it. can't wait to hear your done.
john

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Hi Johnnytugs!

The completion date for the house has just been pushed out. We're having massive rain here and the contractor did NOT turn on the sump pump so the basement flooded (over 4'of water). So now the sheetrock and doors will need to be replaced and some of the stairs.

I spoke with the dealer today and my range in not in yet. It is now due to be in at the beginning of Feb. Like I said before, I'm not in a rush. I'm hoping we can move in by the end of March. We'll see.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

ouch, i'm so sorry, i'm sure everything will turn out for the best.keep in touch.: )

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

yns - oh no! I'm so sorry too! Make sure they dry everything out really well and treat whatever is necessary. You don't want to deal with mold issues! Hope it all gets back on track very soon.

Best of luck with everything -

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Purchased my 36" on December 31st along with all the other appliances. House won't be done until spring so I will have to find someplace to put everything. I was told American has a yearly price adjustment in January and to expect at least a 10% increase if not more due to the popularity. I thought it best to get it now just to be safe.

The sales rep said American has been getting very good reviews.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

ynsmom...so sorry to hear about the storm damage. I think we are in the same area, we live in the Berkeley Hills. It was a scary storm with the winds and intense rain. It's been a while since we had such a bad one. We lost power but happy to say it only lasted for 24 hours. Our American range was a comfort as we could still light the burners with a match to heat up soup and make tea. turning on several burners for a few minutes gave us some light and warmth to take the chill off. My husband is an architect and suggests that you get an industrial hygenist to oversee your water damage repairs so it all gets done right.
Bungalowsteve...congrats on your purchase. We have the 36" 6 burner and we are really enjoying it. I think you will be pleased with your choice.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Okay, all you American Rangers, a few questions for you. Anyone have the "toe cap" accessory? What's it look like? How far does your oven stick out past standard depth cabinets? Will I regret not having an electric oven for baking? How is the customer service (and more importantly, how often do you have to call them?)? Anyone have the griddle plate accessory? Does this have a griddle on one side and a grill on the other? Does it fit over the burner grates? TIA!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

sarschlos - hello! Glad to see you. Do you mean the "leg cap"? - if so, we have it. I'll post pix below. I like the way it changes the look of the feet.

How deep are your standard depth cabinets? My "standard depth" cabinets are not really standard. But it doesn't stick out much at all. It is designed for zero clearance so it goes back pretty well.

Can't address the electric oven (but don't forget that french door option! he he).

The service has been great! I have called a few times for questions, not really service issues but the response was outstanding.

I'd like to know about the griddle plate too -
More soon -
Here is a floor shot of the leg cap - it is the trapezoid looking piece on the leg. I've also provided the link to all of our pictures - one will show how it fits in the cabinets.

RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Thanks, plumorchard. I did mean leg caps. Very cute. Although it looks as though I would need to have finished floor underneath the range, since it will be exposed? I can't believe I'm rethinking my range choice AGAIN. Would be so nice to have at least one thing decided.

Anyone know where to look at one/order in So. Cal. (we're in OC)? Also, their website says they can do them in pretty much any color, but Universal only seemed to have a small color selection. How does that work? Oh, and has anyone seen the green in person?

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

sarschlos - re - flooring...depends on how tall your cabinets are. We had to raise the height of the range quite a bit because our countertops/cabinets are a little taller than normal. Also, I think there was an option for a kick plate kind of cover that would cover the front of the range at the legs all the way across if it fit in to your cabinet space the right way. (Probably calling that the wrong thing)

Colors - they have the standard colors that you saw on Universal but you can custom order a color and they will match it - cost more. I didn't see the green but you can call American (or the distributor) and request a color sample. I have a brochure with it on there in a small box. We looked at mushroom, red, dark blue, and the other blue. I think we are going with custom color (a green) since we have so many colors going on anyway it is hard for one of the standards to work.

Can't help you with your location but we did visit ours at the distributor - is that an option for you? Maybe someone from your way can help with a dealer!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Ouch. Looks like the prices on the 48" ranges have gone up a decent bit.

Got tied up with finalizing the plans with the architect for the new kitchen, completing the application packet for the historic commision, and working on the cabinet & island design. Looks like I should have been paying more attention to the range.

As an aside in working on the kitchen cabinets decided to check out Home Depot and use them as a baseline. Let me tell you they are very expensive for middling quality. You can get much better quality cabinets, with "optional" finshes (glazes and stains on different cabinets vs. only stain), with more and better features for the same price or less than what Home Depot offers.

Maybe someone will put the American Range on sale sometime soon.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

roadster - where did you get your pricing? What were you quoted?

Did they go up at the beginning of the year like everyone else?

Send me that email when you get a chance!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Johnnytugs, Plumorchard, & Mcferg626, thanks for the well wishes. Mcferg, we're building in Millbrae. Thanks for the suggestion on the industrial hygenist. Glad to hear you were without power only for 24 hours. There are still people without power! The storms have been very bad!

The contractor will be cutting out the sheetrock and removing the insulation, and getting the blowers going. This is going to be such a process.

What's the price of the 48" now?

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Here is info on the accessory griddle -
the lift-off griddle is 12" x 24", cast iron, 1/4" thick -

I measured the grates and it was 10 1/4" x 22" -

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

I have not done much shopping for the range yet.

I am not sure when the prices went up, I just noticed the increase the other day on the AJ Madison website. If I remember correctly the price went up something like $1k for a 48" range.

I have not checked out Dvorsons or talked with the local retailer again.

Looks like we missed the trees for the forest. In reviewing the latest kitchen cabinet proposal we noticed an issue with the design of the expansion. The kitchen did not have as open we had planned. Spoke with our architect today and I think we have found a solution to give us the openess we want. We will give up some storage room that I wanted but I think it is a good compromise.

No construction plans yet so the changes are not big deal.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

According to Dvorsons, prices go up 10% on American Range next week.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

amg - if you decide to order before the increase, be sure and touch base -

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

as i have said on numerous occasions before, josh dvorson is a stand-up guy & has the best price.and i ordered from ny/nj area.

RE: Calling all American Range Owners

I'm still loving my range! No issues at all and it is doing great.

My 15 year old is even starting to use it some! Wooohooo!

I was just cooking seashell pastas for the kiddos (yep, outta the box) and they all tumbled out onto the range instead of the pot and I was thrilled that I didn't have to fish them out of the little area between the burner and base (like the Wolf). Yes, I know the drip pan would have caught them but for me, it was just a breeze to get them up!

How is everyone else doing??? Updates!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Plumorchard, great to hear the range is doing great! I have no new news on my end. Glad to hear the sealed burner is coming in to use. I was set on getting an open burner but couldn't find one I liked. So I decided on American only because of the quality I was expecting from a commercial range company. Glad the seal burner is working out! yeah!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Just checking in to say that I'm pretty certain that I'm going to go for a 36" AR. Now I need to choose a wall oven/MW combo that won't break my bank (having chosen to splurge on the AR).

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Hi all
We are really enjoying cooking on this range! We haven't used the oven as much since the holidays just for lack of time. Overall everything is working great. I'm not sure we don't need to adjust a few of the burners. the medium size burners are very high flame. Are they supposed to flame several inches high? We might need to get better pans.
We like the sealed burners, so easy to clean. All in all, a fun range. Makes me want to cook more which is a good thing.
Happy cooking!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

This year has been crazy at work. Just too much going on and too much travel to do anything on the kitchen lately.

We did get approval from the historic commision the other day for the expansion. Had to make a couple of changes and we need to go back before the commision for approval for the design incorporating the required changes. Good news is that we can start moving forward. The construction plans are being worked on now.

Time to find sometime to work on the project and begin to identify construction companys to interview.

Plumchard - not sure if you recieved any of the emails I sent to you or not.

I may go ahead and give Dvorsons a call tomorrow and check on the pricing. I would hate to have to store the range for the next X months but if that would do it if it saves enough money.

I am really ready for the new range. I am tired of cooking on the old one we have.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

amg - no I haven't! Drats - I really wanted to chat with you. Try again - I will check my profile right now and see if something isn't right! I am so sorry - do try again. I have someone in ATL I want you to try.

If you do send another, and don't hear from me - post here.

Comcast is driving me nuts! I have so many problems with messages getting thru!

By the way - great news on the go ahead!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners MORE

amg - I just tested the email from my member page and it came thru. Please do try again -

Plum-

Sent you another email. Let me know if you get it.

If not we will try something else.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Getting close to placing my order (especially since prices are going up Feb.1). I do have a question regarding the placement of the electrical outlet. Is there any concern that it is so close to the floor and may be exposed to water if there is a flood in the kitchen?

Thank you.
Donna

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

donna, i placed mine at average height from the floor(same as the rest) and it was off to the left of the range and it reached fine.it is actually behind my refridge.there is 9" between my range and the refridge where a cabinet will go.
hope that helps.if you call they will send you a schematic of where the gas and electric should be.
john

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

amg - got it! More soon -

donna - what size are you getting? I ask because we had the drawings for the 30" and they noted location was off a little and we had to move it over once the range came in.

regarding the flooding - ours is on an interior wall - not near any water lines that might flood and we are on a basement so it would all go down! But all of the specs I've seen on many ranges have had the electrical in pretty much the same spot close to the floor.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Plum - glad you got the email. Looks like the 3rd time was the charm.

Donnay-

You sure prices are going up Feb 1? I thought I was going to have time to work on the range but this past week was crazy at work and next week is looking no better.

I might just need to block off my calendar and force myself to spend some time and place an order.

I hate to store the range for the next 4 months or so but I can make the room if need be. Just need to verify the measurements to ensure that I can fit the thing through the basement door.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

john - Thank you for providing me with your set-up. I contacted American Range and asked for a schematic.

plum - I am getting the 24" range (sigh, very tiny kitchen - this will go with my 24" refrigerator and 18" d/w). I will verify the location of the outlets with American Range or the appliance store I order from.

amg - That was the date I was given for the price increase. I've set a deadline for myself to get the order in by Monday afternoon.

RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Hi,

I am considering buying the American Range 36" saute/step-up range. Can anyone tell me:

If they own one, and any feedback?

If anyone can recommend a northeast distributor, somewhere between New York City, and Upstate NW Catskills?

If they are ever discounted or wholesaled to individual home owners for residential use?

Thanks much!

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

markrw
if you go to www.americanrange.com > distributors and type in some info, they will email you the distributor info in your area.
i saw the step-up range in reno's (dealer)in north jersey.i believe they were near rt. 80. check out the links in this post and there is a bunch of info. i don't care for signature marketing if you read previously you know why.it seems that everyone who has an american range loves them. i have a 48" with griddle.

Thanks again

RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Hello all,

Thank you so much for all your input on the various ranges.

I've joined the "club". I just ordered my 24" American Range. I saw it in the showroom again today and re-confirmed what everyone has been saying about the range.

Donna

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Congratulations - my neighbor has the 24" American and is very happy.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Figured out my high flame issue on a couple of burners. It was because the rings where the flame comes out weren't put back correctly after taking them off for cleaning. Pretty obvious once we thought to check it. Have to line up the notches so it drops all the way in. It's working fine now.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Called Dvorsons today. Looks like they currently have the best price.

We have not yet broken ground on the new kitchen. In my conversation with Dvorsons they told me they would store the range as long as needed.

So I think tomorrow we are going to go ahead and order a 48" Range with a Grill.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

donnay - congrats! how exciting - I was asking about the size because we got the 30" and that was where the differences were noted in the specs. My hubby was able to move the outlet easy enough once the range was here but we had placed it according to the drawing. Not a biggie just wanted you to be aware. Also keep in mind, if it is at floor level there is also some height to the legs that gives clearance too.

mcferg - glad your burners were an easy fix! Sounds just like something I would do too.

amg - great news for you too! Did you place the order! Hope thing progress along nicely for you.

Hello to everyone else! We still love our range - no complaints, problems, issues....

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Placed the order for the 48" range - 6 burners and a grill - from Dvorsons today. The only only option I added at this point is a stainless steel cover for the grill when not in use. It will create an additional workspace. The 48" range comes with a 4" rear lip, not too many options for it.

One of the options I am debating is the stainless steel "kick plate" it covers the legs.

Josh @ Dvorsons was very nice and easy to work with.

Dvorsons is going to store the range for me until I am ready for it. We have yet to break ground on the new kitchen so are not ready for the range. But I wanted to get the order in prior to the threatened price increase in Feb.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

markrw sorry i didn't get back to you i was away at sea.
alexr thanks for the input.
donnay congrats to you i'm sure you'll be happy.
amg thats outstanding great choice.
best of luck,
john

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

amg roadster - if you don't mind, what price did Josh quote you? Thanks

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

Move over guys. I am convinced too & ordered mine from Josh yesterday. The price is still the same, so I gave him a deposit for a 36" American which I won't need til summer. The price for the 36" is still $3700. According to Josh, it should go up very shortly.
Johnny tugs convinced me back at the holidays, & then I found out his wife is also Luisa. That did it!
Luisa, future American club member.

 o
RE: Calling all American Range Owners

congrats luisa,
wifey's happy i'm sure you will be too!
best of luck, i wish we could get one for the boat so i could use it more. she's a stove hog, lol. but boy can she cook. now she can do it with alot less effort, so if she's happy i'm oooooooook
