Kitchenaid Ovens - Problems when cleaning??

bella_4

I'd like to know if anyone out there has had any problems with their oven regarding the cleaning cycle. Everytime I've ran the self-cleaning feature, the oven blows some sort of fuse and no longer heats up. I've had the repair guy out 5 times now, and KA still won't replace it...says it's a 'fixable' issue. It's nuts, but I wanted to know if anyone else had a similar problem.

Thanks!

Purchased a new Kitchen Aid stove and when it was just passed the warranty period and after a self-cleaning cycle it broke down. Authorized repair service and several hundred dollars later, the replacement part broke down. When that was replaced another part broke down and after several hundred more dollars in repairs it works. Just received a letter from Kitchen Ad offering me an extended warranty for $130 dollars which will not become operative for 6 months.

I would never buy another Kitchen Aid product.

I also have a KitchenAid Supra oven and the thermostat blew after I tried self-cleaning. I actually have an oven, microwave/vent, and dishwasher all broken and ALL KITCHENAID. I've only had them for 5 years. I will never purchase another Kitchenaid product again. When I called the Kitchenaid service line they offered to send out someone (A/E repair) and they did a horrible job on my microwave/vent. They actually made it worse. On the oven, I did get an extended warranty letter and when I tried to purchase it they wouldn't let me until I proved to them that I had first fixed the oven. If they wouldn't insure the oven than why did they offer me extended insurance to begin with. I could go on and on about this. My uncle came over, pulled the oven out of the wall and found a replacement thermostat on the internet for less than $50. Good luck to all!

Brian Mazzola with the Mazzola Law Firm in Beaumont, Texas is working on a class action against Whirlpool for all of the messed up kitchenaid ovens that are burning up after using the self clean option. Contact himthrough his website if you are interested In joining the class action. I spoke with mr. Mazzola and he said that he hoped to have the suit on file within the next 6weeks.

So glad I found my way to this thread. I'm researching ovens to replace the lemon Whirlpool ovens we bought 5 years ago, both of which broke down after self-cleaning the very first time. We have an unusual configuration of 2 wall ovens mounted side-by-side into a large cabinet space. Both have been repaired at least once. When the second oven broke down again after being repaired, we just left it; it's now a very expensive clock and timer. Now we're ready to replace both ovens. So many of the comments posted are exactly what we went through trying to deal with Whirlpool and their absolute denial that they had designed a seriously flawed product. My repairman acknowledged that this was a common problem with the Whirlpool ovens but, of course, the CSR at Whirlpool acted as if she had never heard of the problem! I'm glad I found out that Kitchen Aid is a Whirlpool product as I was very close to going with KA this time. But not now! I have had GE and Frigidaire ovens in the past and didn't have any major problems with them. Can anyone comment on the reliability of those brands?

What a shame. You have what many would consider a premium configuration for wall ovens with nothing from one being dependent on the other. Yet your good plan was ruined thanks to two inferior products and bad customer relations. You might try starting a fresh new thread here in appliances to get more recent info. Just fill in the form at the bottom of an appliance thread list page.

GE, Electrolux (which is also Frigidaire and a lot of Kenmore)are good starting points. A&E service is tied to Kenmore and most other Sears sold appliances. Y ou may want to keep that in mind.

    Good luck.

I am in the same boat as everyone else here. I have a 6 year old kitchenaid range that was broken from the first time my wife self cleaned it. Circuit board went up in smoke quit in the middle of cleaning. Replace under warranty she cleaned one other time at the low setting and now it shuts off whenever it wants.
Carefull cleaning or over cooking a pot and boil over on the cooktop surface as the burners are not sealed and the circuit board is directly below.
    Great engineering!!!!!!
The brand new 500 microwave was also ruined by A and E when they came to fix it. I will give Lowes credit on that one they talked to the rep and i received a new one. I guess it shocked them that the A and E guy ordered every conceivable part for the oven so they figured it was cheaper to replace.
Will I ever buy a Kitchenaid product again NO
Should have learned my lesson with the darn Calypso washer.
Broke after 3 years and Whirlpool told me to fly a kite.
Bought a Miele washer and dryer. Dryer had a small recall. Scheduled an appt.
Service people are dead on accurate on time. Was there 30mins He noticed some other issues since mine was one of the first US models he replaced stuff i did not know I had a concern with. ie new lint filter design Then he gave us a coupon for 125 worth of Persil for OUR inconvenience.
Later the washer broke down. Out of warranty for labor called service. Turns out motor burned out. Was told by service person and tech support that these things do not happen to our motors and there will be no charge.
Guess where I am going to buy my new microwave, dishwasher, oven and cooktop from. MIELE !!!!! I do not care if i have to gut the kitchen to do it but never again will i buy Kitchenaid products. They are an embarrassment.
I hope Lowes or someone in Kitchenaid reads this so maybe it will sink in.
Will I join a Class Action lawsuit where I will get pennies on the dollar while the attorney gets rich NO Hurt them best by making this thread as public as possible and telling a few potential purchasers to stay away.
Hopefully they will wind up like Maytag.

I have owned a KitchenAid built in double oven (Model KEB1276D) since 1999. I have also experienced the same problem with the thermafuse blowing everytime I use the self cleaning feature. The oven is built into a cabinet however, it is a corner cabinet and there is plenty of room behind the oven for air to circulate. After many repairs, I stopped using the self cleaning feature. Thankfully, I will soon be replacing my KitchenAid double oven and I can assure you, I will NEVER buy a KitchenAid/Whirpool appliance again.

My husband and I received a Kitchen Aid Architect II oven as a wedding present less than two years ago. After using the self cleaning function for the second time, the fuse blew. To make a long story short, we have not received an acceptable response from KA. We also received a KA refrigerator and we purchased a dishwasher as well. All three appliances have required service. I am very interested in joining a class action law suit. Please let me know if anyone is interested as well.

    Dear Mr. Mercado:

Thank you for visiting the KitchenAid web site. We appreciate hearing from you.

I am sorry to learn that your oven is not working after using the self clean feature.

We called you today, as requested, but only reached voice mail; we left a message.

Checking the partial model number you submitted, we didn't find any recall or rework.

    We suggest the following:

Turn the power off to the unit for 5 to 15 minutes. Then, if you have power to the control panel:

    1. Press the Cancel/Off keypad. (if door locked open be holding in the door light switch)
    2. Press and hold the "bake" keypad for 70 seconds (ignore error displays while holding down the pad).
    3. Press Cancel/Off keypad.
    4. Try putting the oven in self clean for about one (1) minute and then cancel.

You are a valued KitchenAid customer and we apologize for any inconvenience this concern may have caused.

You may schedule service directly from our website using the link provided below or by calling our Customer Experience Center.

This is unbelievable. After over a week without the range, Kitchenaid contacts me and offers to pay for half the cost of the part. Now, looking on the internet, the price of the part from Kitchenaid is so inflated that I can already buy the part at less than half price so that is no "deal" at all. When labor is factored in - the range is likely junk.
So - the fortunate part is my new range will obviously not be from the list of products made by this conglomerate now that this company has it shoddy practice exposed.
Has anyone filed a complaint with any consumer safety boards? Any other organizations I can take this to? It is not over.
Oh, anyone having the same problem - there is a secret service pointer from the manufacturer to its technicians. Bulletin number is K4317445. Not only should the part that goes be replaced, but an upgraded blower needs to be installed as well. Do not let a repair person replace only the part that fails, make them do the blower as well.

I have had my Kitchenaid Architect Series II for Just over a year and decided it needed a clean. Error code F5E1 came up saying door latch not operating. I have a fridge, dishwasher and microwave and am very happy. Does anyone know if there is some sort of recall on this? Seems like a all to common problem. Anyone else experience this and what is the cure?

When we repaired our house after Katrina, we decided to purchase all Kitchenaid appliances due to their quality and reputation.Boy, did i make a big mistake! The first6 months after we moved back into our house our microwave went out right before the holidays. Needless to say, a main board had to be ordered and we did not have it repaired till after Christmas. The second time it acted up, the start button and also is the keypad lock button was acting up and would lock the keypad and flash a default code. this time, it was out of warranty and the keypad cost me 130 dollars to replace.I am a TV technican and i wa sable to repair it myself.
Now, my convection oven model #KEBC107KSS05 went out after my wife decided to do the clean cycle. The oven shutdown thermal fuse went bad and when i called to price it, no one had it in stock and found out the cost of the little jewel ranges from 54 to 40 dollars. What a ripoff for such a small part with a high failure rate! Also, after reading this forum i found out that i am not the only one with this problem. I have been in the electronics repair business for 43 years and was self-employed for 22 years and always stood behind my work unlike Kitchenaid. My customers listen to my advice and i will not be recommending ANY KITCHENAID PRODUCT unless upper management can convince me otherwise.

Sorry to be repetitive, but can you explain why when we run the self-cleaning part on the gas range, the stove no longer works? My wife put it on the quickest cleaning cycle (cycle 1 - we were previousl8y told NOT to put it on a high cycle. Of course,t hen why do they have it if it won't work). The cleaning went ok, but last night we could not heat up food as a result and were having company.
This morning , after 2 hours, the heat went up to about 248. This is about the third this has happened.
Called Customer Service and told could get a repair scheduled. I also asked why this keeps happening & why do they work for a company that is putting out poor quality items. VERY FRUSTRATING TO SAY THE LEAST! POOR WORK KitchenAid :(
KitchenAid, why should we buy from you ever again? This is ONE LONG LONG LONG list of issues with your items.

Kitchen Aid ovens blow the thermal fuse when cleaning because there is a "vent" trim piece covering up the vent under the oven door. I can't believe I fixed the problem after three service calls from greedy techs. Shame on Kitchen Aid for having a sheet metal trim piece screwed on directly over the air vent. Look under the door! Obviously, this brand is a POS and the trim piece was not tested in the design.
Disregard the installation instructions, and leave off the trim under the door!
    GOOD LUCK KITCHEN AID

This is the second time my oven will not get hot after using self cleaning with my kitchen aid oven. It also didn't even clean my oven. I can't wait to voice dissatisfaction to the kitchen aid people tomorrow. I will never use the self cleaning option again. You would think they would have some sort of recall on this problem.

Used the self clean option for the first time today. Oven shutdown half way through and the door is locked shut. Stovetop still works. Bought the stove 3 years ago. So much for Kitchen Aid. If I copuld unlock the door I could check for the trim. Should I call Kitchen Aid?

    Thanks

If there's a class action suit re: fuse blows during self-clean, please let me know. It's outrageous that KA continues to sell a defective product for years. The least they can do is drop the claim that the oven is self-cleaning.

I too have the same problem with my KA oven and for three years it has fried the thermocoupler when cleaning. The last time the company actually paid for the repairs, but this time they refused to pay saying it is too old. I asked how long it was suppose to last and he was very evasive and said that the industry say 10 years.
My biggest complaint is that they are fraudulently claiming it is a self cleaning oven which in fact it is not. My technician told me it burns the thermocoupler up before it even gets hot enough to clean the oven. I agree with Rex they should at least stop claiming it is self cleaning.

I have a KA range, and have had several problems, including a locked oven. My solution? Buy appliance repair insurance from one of your utility companies. It's about $30 a month, and has saved me literally thousands of dollars. Is it a great solution or cheap? NO, but a lot less hassle.

I have had my oven fuze blow way back when we purchased our house. It took 3 months for the repair quy to figure out what it was after getting us another power board. I never put it on self clean ever anymore! blew a second time when accidentally was set to self clean and I couldn't stop it. Last night It has blown again from cooking. I have been beyond unsatisfied by this self cleaning oven that I have to scrub every holiday. Now it overheats from frying chicken and making a batch of french fries on 450 degrees. I will never purchase anything kitchen aid ever again. My fridge and dishwasher have given me no trouble but this oven should be on a recall list!

I have two KA ovens which were purchased in 2006 or 2007 when we did a complete remodel of our kitchen. One is built in and the other free standing with a gas cook top. They were purchased after extensive research on the quality of the product compared to other brands. Obviously, the fuse issue hadn't become known by enough consumers at the time we purchased them, or we wouldn't have bought this brand. Both have self cleaning and have blown fuses when using the self-cleaning feature since purchasing them. I have contacted KA about this problem and they only offer apologies and provide local repairmen. They are fully aware of this global problem with their product and have no intention of fixing it since it's not a safety hazard. Best we can do is spread the word to other consumers that their products are defective and complaints to KA will go unanswered. It's so unfortunate, because we love the look of our KA appliances. We will never buy KA again....

I have the KA Architect II double ovens and wonder if the problem continues. They are 2-3 years old.

I have not run the clean cycle for fear of something going awry.

  • chas045

I believe that KA increased the fan speed/power for newer models even before yours. I have a ~2009 model. I only ran the clean cycle twice without issue during my 3 yr repair agreement. My guess is that you will likely be ok. However, one might want to go with the more conservative approach that NO self clean oven is really safe. At least KA had a good fuse system that blew before distroying the main circuit board. Of course they couldn't put it in a convenient location for repair; gee thanks.

  • HU-434584

I too have burned out a few fuses. However, it occurred to me that if the cleaning cycle were shortened the oven might get hot enough for long enough to clean itself without heating up so much that it burned out the safety fuse.

At least on my oven, when you select CLEAN the time comes up to 3:30. But you can change this by pressing CLEAN and then entering a new time before pressing START. I tried running it for 2:30. The oven was clean and no blown fuse!! Perhaps starting with an even lower time and then extending the time so the minimum time was found to achieve an adequate cleaning would solve the problem.

Couldn't just let this thread die without a comment from someone who has owned a KA Superba since 2004 (yes, that's 14 years now). That's the year we remodeled our Kitchen and used all KA appliances (except our Thermador cooktop) - single-wall oven, microwave, range Hood, dishwasher, refrigerator. There is not enough room in this space for me to list the litany of problems we have had with each and every one. High quality? I don't think so. Customer support? Forget it.

As for the "self-cleaning" oven, after replacing the "thermal fuse" three times at $60 each time (because I did it myself - otherwise much more), I have faithfully cleaned the oven the old-fashioned way (Easy-Off) every year between Thanksgiving and Christmas. It is messy, time-consuming, and annoying. Yet it serves as my annual reminder to *never* purchase another KA (or Whirlpool) appliance.

Oh yeah, I should add that we replaced our top-of-the-KA-line dishwasher with a Bosch after the control unit burned up during a routine cleaning cycle. That was *after* replacing the string tensioners on the door multiple times (loud noises when opening and closing the door), and cleaning out the "food grinder" twice a year so it didn't stop up and quit cleaning our dishes. And yes, we rinse our dishes before they go in the dishwasher. FWIW, our Bosch has been flawless.

    Buyer beware.

Since this thread popped up again, I thought I should add a comment about the bottom vent. Look for a comment by ty_ostwald_sun.com on april 16, 2011. Like me, he has noted that the bottom piece of trim will prevent air from circulating as well as possible.

This thread started in 2006 and reached the maximum count of 150 posts on old gardenweb in 2011. House removed the limit and this thread is now extended. I had run a couple 2.5hr cleaning tests on my 2007 unit without failures, but I didn't have the bottom trim installed because the electricians who installed the oven probably didn't even find that trim 'vent'. I ordered one later and see its limitations. If I had the nerve to run another cleaning, I would remove the piece first; I have it resting in place without screws.

Bought and installed KA 30" Single Wall Oven with Even-Heat True Convection in December 2016. Ran the self clean cycle (light clean) and it worked fine. In April 2018, I ran it on medium/regular clean and about 3 hours into the cycle, the control panel went black. When it cooled, the oven door was locked shut. First problem was when I couldn't open the oven door because the installer had bolted the oven into the wall unit and to remove the oven from the space, the door needed to be opened. Repairman came and used a wire hanger to unlock the oven door. Talk about high tech! Found out that fan wasn't cooling the oven during self cleaning, causing the fuse to blow and the control panel to short out. This oven is only 16 months old! I'm seriously thinking of junking it and getting a different make. Wish I read this post before I bought my KA oven.

p.s. Further, the oven gets so hot that it peels off the veneer from the wood cabinet. So if you install the oven into a built in cabinet, this is another buyer beware.

I installed a combination double wall oven in Nov. 2017 -- Top is Microwave & Convection; bottom is Convection, conventional oven (Model KOCE507ESS05) I cleaned it for the first time a couple of nights ago. The oven is clean but the lower oven will not heat: both the broiler and regular heating do NOT work at all! If anyone is aware of a class action suit that I can join -- please post it here. I live in Colorado and this wall oven is only 8 months old. Unbelievable!

If you’re slightly handy you can fix this yourself. There are several videos on Utube that explaine the procedure. I changed mine out in 30 minutes. It took me longer to pry the kickboard of the cabinet than anything else. Just remember to trip the breaker before pulling the panel to be safe. The part is Available on eBay or on line retailers for around $20. I‘m cleaning mine the old way from here on.

has anyone had the experience of pressing the clean mode and display panel immediately goes dark and oven (electric) dead? It died immediately: don't see how it can be the thermal fuse. I'm so done with kitchen aid; have had locked doors before. Few weeks ago, built in kitchen aid microwave died after 4 years.

  • HU-790375672

Give you guys a laugh: I am HU-790375672. Tech consultant said there is no mention of oven dying immediately upon pressing clean button in their help manual; only fix in the go to manual she was reading from was to reset the fuse at the box. Big help. Tried sending an email to Kitchen Aid by filling out their form: will not process because model and serial number not recognized. Really? I have the manual, checked the numbers on the side of the oven and what I wrote, and guess what, I have the correct numbers. Can't identify the model number!!!!! Inmates running the show!!! In contrast to lousy customer service (both oven and microwave are dead), makers of our Subzero fridge readily acknowledged a design flaw (required 3 service calls due to flashing LED lights) and have warrantied the product for the life of the refrigerator, which is 15-20years. What a difference in how customers treated by Kitchen Aid.

My KitchenAid built in oven blows the thermal fuse every time I use the self clean mode...a few minutes before the self clean mode is completed. Technicians say —because it’s inserted into surrounding cabinets it doesn’t provide enough ventilation and that I shouldn’t use self clean. It’s sold as a built in oven and professes to be self clean...When the thermal fuse blows the oven remains locked with no lights on the panel....and is then useless unless one wants the appearance of an oven but not one that bakes or roasts. The internet has hundreds of complaints about the same failures....I think it’s highway robbery to knowingly sell a defective product....what about a class action suit? How am I supposed to sell my house with an oven that dies whenever it needs cleaning. I purchased a 5 year extended warranty at huge cost so I could call a technician to fix....5 years is up... The part sometimes takes 3 weeks on order before the oven can be fixed. Either Kitchen Aid needs to manufacture a fix to prevent this failure free of charge to its unfortunate customers or they need to stop manufacturing ovens!!!

  • dadoes

A service bulletin was issued Jan 2011, revised Mar 2011, applicable to specific models and range of serial numbers. You didn't cite your model (and serial) ... but sounds like your unit is newer than the target date range. The fix is a redesign on the cooling blower for a faster RPM with a higher airflow rate ... but your unit may already have it if it dates to 2014 (5 years ago).

Also states to check that the door closes properly and no damage to the gasket (so hot air isn't escaping from the door and getting pulled directly into the vent intake, and that the interior venting tube from the oven cavity to the exterior isn't separated or crushed for heat to escape from the oven cavity into the the confines of the unit's outer cabinet.

  • clt3

How do you find the service bulletin, and what does it prescribe as the fix? Haven't run my self clean again and I really need to.

  • dadoes

clt3, the fix for affected models (per the stated model numbers and serial number range) is to replace the cooling blower with the revised one. Part Number W10176670 (which is now WPW10176670). Double-oven units with separate cooling blowers for the upper and lower, only the upper blower needs to be changed. It's service bulletin 4317445-B, maybe you can find it via online search.

Judy: I certainly don't blame you for not reading this whole thread, but it certainly gives one some idea that your problem used to be an issue. Yes, Whirlpool should have done a better job and it was clear then and now that they don't plan to treat anyone well.

However, as dadoes already suggested above, your oven is probably one of the newer improved models and likely already has the new fan. I have no idea if the newer models have a newer bottom decorative vent than my older model, but you should probably read my post that is only five items above your original post and also read the older post i mentioned in Jan. 2011. That might give you improved venting during a clean.
BTW, I haven't used self clean since my original tests many years ago. Plenty of people with other brands don't self clean their ovens either. My oven is easy to clean by hand.

I own the Kitchen-aid wall oven. It is now 5 years old. When the unit was barely a year old I used the self clean feature and then I noticed that the panel outside was black-no features showing and no way to turn anything on. I called for service and at that time the part was replaced and covered. Over the years I have only had to use the self clean feature a couple of times as I maintain the oven very well hover in November 2019 the same thing happened and I called for service and this time I had to pay for the service call and the part. At that time the service man told me that I also needed to replace the fan because it was not cooling the oven quickly enough and therefore causing the fuse to blow. I took his recommendation and spent in excess of $250 for parts + service to replace the fan as well as the fuse a second time. I tried to get more information at the time and express my concern that a part should not need to be replaced just 3 years after being replaced only 1 year after the oven was purchased. Now, 4 months later, yesterday I was baking bread at 450 degrees and again the fuse has blown. The new fan did not seem to help the issue which makes me believe that the fan did not need replacing at all. I want Whirlpool to take responsibility and pay for the part and service and address the issue which obviously is a recurring problem in many cases.

Unfortunately, this has been an issue with KitchenAid (Whirlpool) ovens for many years. I purchased mine in 2004 with the same issue. I cleaned it manually (Easy Off) for 14 years before replacing it with an awesome GE Cafe Oven which works perfectly - including the self-cleaning feature.

I can tell you from personal experience that Whirlpool will never fix nor take responsibility for this issue. The only real solution is to avoid KitchenAid and Whirlpool appliances.

I'm afraid ca-taylor is right. However, in addition, it doesn't sound like your currant problem is the normal thermal fuse issue. I believe the self clean runs far hotter than your failure of some kind at 450°F. I don't know if dadoes will look way down here (a new post would have been better), but I as just an interested home owner with a logical mind, would think that IF the thermal fuse really did fail again, that it was severely defective. Unfortunately, just your bad luck at this point.

The service bulletin for the updated cooling fan is dated 2011 (although there could have been a later revision issued on it) and refers to a list of specific WP and KA models manufactured prior to 2008 by serial number and "all KA 24-inch built-in ovens."

HU-894100795's unit being 5 years of age is several years newer so presumably would already be built with the improved fan.

    Self-clean heats to 900°F+.

Wall ovens are more prone to having this cooling problem, being surrounded by the cabinetry vs. a free-standing or drop-in or set-in range.

Pyrolytic (high-heat) self-cleaning ovens have a normal porcelain interior. Regular oven cleaner products can be used on them without damage. However, chemical residue may remain that can generate noxious fumes if self-clean is subsequently run ... so it should never be run again after using chemical cleaners.

If there is a class action lawsuit in the works, I would like to join. When we remodeled our kitchen, we purchased model# KECD867XBL02 in 2017, a KItchenaid double oven. As others have mentioned, it overheated and stopped working. The repairman told me that this is a common problem with the oven and I should never use the self cleaning feature again or it would happen every time. So for years, I clean my oven the old fashioned way, which is very disappointing. We paid serious dollars for this oven because of its advertised features and cannot use them. They are obviously still selling this product knowing of its defect, which should not be happening.

I used my self-cleaning feature on my wall oven for the first time and it ruined all my cabinets and drawers surrounded it and melted off the laminate trim because it got so hot. Has anyone had this problem?

Pyrolytic (high-heat) self-cleaning ovens reach upwards of 880°F to 930°F. They have extra insulation accordingly but of course will get hotter on the exterior during self-clean than during normal baking operation. Your cabinetry materials apparently aren't compatible to it. Is this a new build, or was the oven installed to replace a previous non-self-cleaning model?

Thank you for the information. This was a new build. I called the cabinet designer twice and they never returned my call. I gave up trying to get them to remedy the problem. I just wanted them to be informed when designing a kitchen for their future customers. Now when I clean the oven, I use the shortest cycle and that seems to work.

YES. i used mine for the FIRST time yesterday (6/27/2022) and it shutdown 2 hours into the clean, blew the fuse, bottom door was locked, and the panel was blacked out. this happened also last november when i was baking bread. not only did it blow the fuse, but the circuit breaker in the garage as well. from what i hear from my friends that have kitchenaid ovens -- do not ever use the self-clean because it blow the fuse EVERY TIME! i complained to kitchenaid/whirlpool about this issue yesterday, vehemently, and have not heard a peep from them. one thing for certain, it keeps the kitchenaid repairmen in business because every holiday (thanksgiving/christmas) when ladies are planning to do a lot of cooking, they try and clean their ovens. last november, mine crashed a week before thanksgiving (was baking sourdough bread). the repair service response: "too bad, so sad. will not be able to get parts or service your oven until two weeks AFTER thanksgiving. heads up people...DO NOT USE THE SELF-CLEAN button when you are a few weeks shy of a major holiday. you will be cooking in crockpots, outdoor grills, and on the stove. to my knowledge kitchenaid has not addressed this issue in their ovens. but it's just not kitchenaid, from what i heard from the repair guys, it's viking, bosch, etc. too. doesn't matter how much you pay for your ovens - THEY DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU EVER USE YOUR SELF-CLEAN program! BTW....in november, my warranty had not yet expired, but was going to expire waiting to get service and parts. they are still the best, they just need to fix this problem - it's been ongoing for almost a decade now according to this blog. If there is a class action lawsuit in the works, I would like to join. maybe a little legal pressure will force them to ultimately fix this very dangerous problem.
