Help please: Photobucket

I am wondering the same thing, Glenda. I loaded all of the pictures on my computer and deleted them from Photobucket. What a bummer. I hope there are some good suggestions.

If they are stored on your Computer you should be able to upload them right here to Houzz. Hover over the Avatar pic beside "Your Houzz" at the top right. I

think it will tell you how.

I haven't done it yet, but have on other sites....hopefully it will work for you.

Mine are stored in Photobucket and I want to move them from there as they are now charging for using your pictures from there.

I need another place to move them to.

FLICKR gives a terabyte of storage for FREE! They're owned by Yahoo.

I think you will need to download your photos and then upload them to the storage site you prefer.

You need to save the pictures from photobucket to your computer. That way you always have the ability to backup them to a flash drive or other storage. Many are complaining about the photobucket change. I have not used mine in years. Once you have them on your computer then if you choose to add them to another storage site you can. But with the change to houzz we can now upload our photos directly from our computer to the kt which is actually easier than using photobucket or other storage sites.

You can use Google photos, set up a free account, if you have a Gmail account that works.

Gee, Raven...I just uploaded this photo directly from my Win Pic file and Houzz didn't prevent it. I don't mean to be a smart alack...but is there something that I'm missing? Or something that's different in your system than mine. I'm operating from a PC. I know you use a tablet ?...or something similar.

That's what I said. In the old days of GW you had to use a storage site like photobucket. Now that is not necessary. It's much easier now.

computer failure, etc. Never used another storage site other than my own.

Ohhh! LOL I misunderstood/misread your post. Sorry 'bout that, Raven and thanks for clarifying. I'm having a bad eye day. Sigh. But aside from that...I've never had a storage site and I posted photos directly from my PC years ago, too. Maybe I was just lucky and squeezed them in between the "allow" times and the "denial" times without knowing any better. But now...considering my apparent confusion...LOL...I think I'd better stay in "read" mode until my eye improves a little.

This is a test. After Glenda's latest post, I thought maybe mine would reflect the kind of info she got. However, it is working correctly for me. By the way, this is not my kitchen, but it is an inspiration for me. New Caesarstone Blizzard countertops are being installed this coming Friday. Then they will be painted white and brushed satin hardware installed on the currently hardwareless cabinets. We are really excited.

I've always just clicked on the picture and Save As to my desktop and posted from there. It works perfectly.

If you have a mouse, you should be able to right click on it to safe a pic to your desk top.

Instead of using an online site, it really is better to invest in a secondary drive that you can just plug into your computer because as you're seeing with Photobucket, these sites change their policies all the time and you have no control.

Houzz now will allow you to upload a photo from your computer to their site fro display.

Many, many sites will not so allow. On those one frequently must upload a photo to a site such as Photo Bucket and then show a link to tht Photo Shop picture in your post on the desired site. At these majority sites a "secondary drive" will not help you.

I just want to get my albums FROM Photobucket and I'm not able to do that. I'll be happy to save on my computer, which I do on recent pictures. Just want my albums from Photobucket.

Glenda, I got that same glitchy error a couple of weeks ago. The next day I was able to get in and download some photos with no error. I have so many photos there too. It's going to be a monumental task to download them from there.

Hi Glenda....I think your trying to move an ENTIRE album.....all at once? It's not possible to move an entire album, only the pics, one at a time can be downloaded, then uploaded to another site.

I got that same message that Glenda posted when I tried to add the raccoon pictures a couple of weeks ago. It cleared up the next day with no purchase, was just a glitch.

My account is gone though, so I can't test. Just a guess but maybe it's just taking a long time because the album is large and/or lots of other folks are doing the same thing at the same time so it's slowing their server down?

Maybe Photobucket's 3rd party replacement image will become the most popular image on the web?

For those considering moving to Tiny Pics, they are owned and operated by Photobucket. I'd be leary about the same thing happening there.

Yes, I've lost all of my Photobucket pictures, too. I've even lost some that I had saved elsewhere, such as bookmarked photgraphic instructions from the hosta forum.

I noticed the pics were gone when I was searching for some recipes in the cooking forum. A whole thread had deleted pictures, just the warning about upgrading your account picture showed up. Pretty pointless and frustrating having no pics in a cooking forum. Grrrrr.

A few years ago I lost a lot of photos due to a computer that crashed and burned. Not even the geeks could salvage any of my files. A good reminder to perform backups regularly.

Fortunately, most of those photos had been stored on Photobucket. Now that Photobucket isn't playing nice, I'm in the process of saving those photos to my computer. Once I have them all saved, I will back them up on a flash drive. Never again, will I rely on an outside source to save something important to me like photos or documents.

Lessons learned:

Back up your files regularly on an external device.

Don't depend on any of these internet companies for these types of services. You never know when they will change their terms of service, be sold to someone else or just plain go out of business.

I understand that Photobucket is a business and that they exist to make money. But the way they did this is really unprofessional. They could have made this change apply to future third party linking rather than break all these existing links. So many people have been affected by this change and all this posting history has been lost. They could have announced this change a few months ago to give people a chance to prepare. I read earlier in this thread that one of you received an email notification, but I haven't received a thing. Judging by how many people are reacting with surprise and shock, I'm assuming a lot of them didn't receive any type of notice either.

I also think that $399 a year is a rather excessive amount to charge for their services. Bye, bye, Photobucket.

I used imageshack for years and they did the same thing. Suddenly I couldn't do anything with my pictures. No notice either. I could pay and hope to get my pictures or just forget about it. I had all of the important pictures backed up but I did have other saved pictures there that I lost.

You never know. Same with the cloud storage sites they could suddenly shut down too. Having copies on flash drives, hard drives and DVD are things you can control.

However multiple versions is best. I lost some of my stuff in the flood. Who would think your backup hard drive would go under water? I mean sometimes you can do everything right but it can still go wrong. Who would think all of your photos that were stored in plastic bins stored in the closet would go under water. It sucks but it is what it is.
