A few weeks ago a lot of people received emails saying they could get a small welcome gift and enter into a contest if they submitted their home address.

What'd you get, Chi?

A handwritten welcome note (in an envelope personalized with my name that I left out of the pic), a water bottle and an adorable little tape measure. All branded of course but I think it's a really nice gesture, and the tiny tape measure will come in handy for sure.

No invite, no gift. Sad face. You must be special!

I received the e-mail from Tamara, and responded with my address. Haven't received anything, though.

I live in Orange County and it mailed from Palo Alto.

I recieved the email from Tamara, too, but declined because I never give my address out upon request. Tamara replied, saying that the information would be dumped after delivery, but I'm still leery of anything like that.

There was a post here about the invite and a lot of people were declining to enter because of the address request. I entered, I'm not nervous to give out my address. No gift yet, maybe I wasn't a winner. Congrats to you, Chi. Those little tape measures come in handy.

The invite might have ended up in a spam folder and gotten deleted, unread.

Maybe the non-complainers got the gifts and the whiners like me got nothing! LOL.....it's ok. I don't want to share my address anyway.

Normally I am very protective of my personal info, I trusted the site. No gift here. I wonder how many they gave out.

I'm sorry if I caused any hurt feelings if you didn't receive the email or the welcome gift. I really thought everyone who entered got the welcome gift and a chance for the ipad but maybe I read the email incorrectly. My email says people were randomly selected, but on the previous thread it sounded like a lot of people received the email but were declining to enter. I guess people who didn't receive it were less likely to post about it.

Hopefully I was just first since I live close and we'll get some other winners. It shipped on 2/25 from California via UPS ground, which takes about 2-5 days depending where you live.

Like chi, the email I got said that everyone who responded would get a gift and ALSO be entered into a drawing for an iPad. I didn't get the email. I'm sad.

The people receiving the E-mail were selected randomly. Most people that received it did not want to reply because they didn't want to release personal information. There were many posts here about it at the time. It was just the luck of the draw.

I'm rather skittish about giving out personal info, though I'm fairly open about my life on the KT and other Gardenweb forums, but trusted that this'd be O.K, so replied.

I understood that there'd be a small gift for a least a substantial number ... and the major draw for an i-pad.

No gift received yet - but I'm a long way away ... and there's a border.

The gift I got was y'all. I understand that GW was slated to end, and the fact that it was acquired by Houzz means I still get to read the posts of folks I've read for decades. Some who I've grown to respect, some who drive me crazy at times, some who give advice and input that has really help me over the years.

lucillle, I think you are right on. Some may not like the reply but it may be important to another. I like discussions I often find myself looking at the other side of the issue and rethinking my beliefs.

Georgysmom, how do you know that it was random, and just the luck of the draw. I'm not meaning to start anything, I'm just wondering. Did it say that somewhere in the email you got? It didn't in mine.

Suzieque, I was wondering the same thing. I'd wouldn't be surprised if it really wasn't random. Either way, I'm happy for those who got something that wanted a surprise.

I guess the question is how they define "loyal." Could be how many years active, how much someone participates, if they go to various forums, etc.

That's what my email said, too.

I had received my message from Tamara on Friday, February 6th. Said the same thing as Chi83's and Jasdip's, and also said that replies must be received by Monday, February 9th at 11:59 pm PST.

I don't know if there was a second round of messages or not.

Maybe because Chi83 and I have received gifts it means that we're out of the running for the iPad...

My email arrived on 2/6 too, but I know people were reporting getting theirs earlier that week. I don't know if it said the same thing though.

Mine was received on Feb 5 also and was worded exactly like Chi's. We are iced in, so no package yet.

After *someone* informed me that I was already too 'public', I decided not to give houzz my address. (You know who you are...LOL. And I'm grateful that you did show me I had 'no cover'.)

Well, I don't know positively it was random. I was just guessing. That's usually the way these things are done. There are a lot of people that have been here longer than me and there are a lot of people that are newer than me. It's just the luck of the draw. Maybe they knew I don't have an I-pad. LOL

I bet the bad weather conditions could be causing some of the delivery delays. I have experienced that recently with some orders. On other forums and blogs that I have see do random drawings they use a drawing service that draws a number assigned to the individual so it's totally out of the hands and control of the people having the drawing. I can't remember the name right this second, not uncommon these days lol.

I don't know what method they used here. I got the original email but I didn't reply.

I received my tape measure today and it is perfect timing since we have just begun a new phase of home remodel and we are lacking in a small, easy to carry tape measure. I thought to handwritten envelope and card a very nice touch. Thank you Tamara. Thank you Houzz.

I'd love to do another kitchen remodel and we do have a rental to work on but just no time right now.

We have to do our kitchen and bathrooms soon. They are original 1992 and need an update. My current debate is whether to keep the cabinets and refinish them or buy new ones.

I love the tape measure. There are so many times when we're out somewhere and I need to measure something. The Houzz tape measure is the perfect size to keep in my purse.

No ipad, but the door bell rang, and a package was on my front porch. I expected two boots#7 night creams, but no, it was a HOUZZ package! I received a water bottle and a tape measure along with the nice note! Thank you Tamara. Thank you Houzz.

My email was in my spam folder. I went looking after some of you posted about it last month. I did not reply. I hadn't even known that GW was going to Houzz until after it happened. Congratulations to those of you who entered and received!

Just a suggestion, and I am not saying that these tape measures are included, but I know someone recently got a couple of this type of tape measure that were from China, and the inch measurements were short! Please check these before you use them for something important. Again, I am NOT saying that these are defective, just letting you know it's something to be checked, as I see some of you sew, and some are remodeling and might use them to check something in store for fit. My friends found out the hard way.

I pulled out my desk ruler to check, my Houzz tape measure is right on the money!

On the Bill of Lading, it said that there was a water bottle and a t-shirt in the package. Did everyone's say that?

Hubby couldn't believe that we received such high quality gifts, from a free site.

I didn't get a Bill of Lading, just the shipping labels on the outside of the box.

It was obviously needed to cross the border. It said Gift for reason of export

Jasdip, gifts varied. You got the super sized box. Some only got the t ape measure. Still waiting to hear about the iPad winner!

Garden Web was set to be closed down, and they reached out to Houzz. They graciously took us on and the forums are alive and well, thanks to them.
