 Removing wall strips

I want to remove the strips between the sheetrock panels in my DW and fill them in so that I can paint and have smooth walls. What can I use to fill them in that won't start to crack in a few years? Follow-Up Postings: RE: Removing

 Cold Air

My home is about 15 years old. 2 winters ago I placed plastic on all of my windows and the cold air rushing in would push the plastic out. Meanwhile, when I placed my hands over the strips that are put on the wall that are about every 3 or 4 feet

My daughter bought a very nice 1997 MH and wants to paint over the patterned vinyl-coated wallboard. Anyone know what kind of paint to buy and what prep is needed to cover this slightly textured vinyl successfully? Follow-Up Postings:

 Wood Panelling

I have dark wood panelling throughout my MH and I don't know if it would be wise to paint over it or remove it and completely redo the walls. I'm mostly looking at the living room and kitchen and maybe just leaving the bedrooms as is. Any sugges

 Painting with wallboard trim

I removed the strips and papered with textured paper. The paper refused to stick on one wall no matter what I used. I took the paper off and washed the walls and painted. The paint is peeling off, it peeled when I painted it. Now I'm going to fill

Has anyone here ever drywalled right over the vinyl wallboard. I had a professional come in and they said it would be a lot easier and cheaper to drywall over and make adjustments for door jams, windows, trim, etc. Has anyone ever done this
