Nice Wood Horse Racing game

I am retired and recently played a Horse Racing game at someones house. It was alot of fun and it looks like it would not be too hard to make. Would someone be so kind to tell me how to make it and what measurements to use.The friend had one with hole pegs and plastic horses. It was really nice finished.
