Java Gel Stain - Is my over sanding going to be a problem ?

I am refinishing my oak cabinets. Before I discovered General Finishes Java Gel stain I had completely stripped the cabinets down to bare wood. Since I had no idea what I was doing I thought the finer the grit of sandpaper the smoother and more professional the look would be so I ultimately sanded all of the oak cabinets using a 400 grit ! Now after much research I see that this was a mistake and that 180 is the recommended max for oak. My question is will this matter since I am using a gel stain ? OR do I need to go back and rough up the surface with a rougher grit ? I haven't sanded the cabinet boxes yet and am concerned that they wont match unless I work up to 400 grit on the boxes as well .
