Hello, I'm confused about exterior stains, can what's called deck stain be used on any exterior wood? I have need to seal/stain some fence posts & panels, a cellar door, and some other things like an old oak lawn chair. It would be nice if I could just get one product.

And also When cutting fence posts I was told I should soak the ends in some sealer - well, what is that - could above mentioned product work for that too?

Ideally, I would like a gray-green semi-transparent color - any recommendations re: brands ? Something good and durable. THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!
