Darkening oak stained with golden oak?

Posted by cotehele (My Page) on

I have a corner cupboard I would like to re-stain to match (as much as reasonable) my new qs oak cabinets. It was stained golden oak and finished with polyurethane many years ago. I have some of the cabinet stain. What is the process?

Thanks

Wood stain is designed to go on raw wood.

Strip the finish using a chemical stripper, let dry, lightly sand and you will have raw wood.

There are other techniques, but they involve different products and color matching skills. You have the stain and stripping and refinishing is the most direct route.
