stain or paint, maple frames black?

| We are having a couple of custom mirror frames made out of maple for our master bath. I will be doing the staining or painting to turn them black. I have couple of questions. What should I be buying, paint or stain? Also what sheen would look best, flat or satin? TIA |

| Staining maple black will be very difficult as the grain is very dense and maple also blotches sometimes. That means the easier route is paint. To paint, first primer. If I nwere painting a mirror frame in a bathroom, I would use gloss for the better moisture resistance. |
