How to repair this old rocking chair?

I have a 50+ year old child's rocker (mine, actually!), fully upholstered and in need of repair. About 20 years ago our Golden Retriever chewed a bunch off the end of one of the curved pieces (don't know what to call that part, but it's the piece that makes a rocker rock). It's been sitting on a shelf in the garage ever since, out of sight and out of mind. I'd love to bring it back to life in our home but don't have a clue as to how to fix it (not me!) or even how to search for someone to fix it. Can anyone steer me in a good direction?

There are two basic ways this "runner" can be fixed.

1. Fill in and recolor the chewed away parts. The stick epoxies that come in neutral tones are good for this. Quikwood is one common brand. You can roughly shape it with an old credit card or gift card and a little soapy water while it's still uncured. Then you can sand away to do the final shaping with sandpaper after it's fully cured. You will then have to color and finish to match.

2. Have a whole new runner remade. This is more time consuming to do, but will be easier to blend in a new color. Use the old one for a pattern as to curve, hole locations and dimensions.
