Glue for recaning chairs

I would like to cane the chairs today but can not find anyone in my area that sells hide glue. I can order hide glue from Amazon but don't really want to wait until next weekend to work on them. What other type of glue would be ok to use to hold the spline in the groove? Thanks

If you are using machine cane that is held into a grove by a spline, you can use regular white glue. You can wipe off the excess with a damp rag.

Rockler and Woodcraft both sell liquid hide glue. But if you are not near them, white PVA glue (Elmer's or Titebond) work fine. You just need something that will dissolve out in water for the next time.
