Glue for melamine board?

Yeah, I know: not exactly a fine woodworking question, but thought you guys would know.

I'm planning some simple closet shelves, adjustable, out of the white coated particle board shelving my local lumber yard sells. Not sure it's actually melamine, the white coating seems similar but thinner.

I'm thinking this stuff is too non-porous for a regular carpenter's glue...

So what would I use?

There are different types of melamine, some thinner than others. I don't know of any glue that I'd trust to hold on to it in a structural sort of way. I'm not sure what you need to fasten to it, but I'd think in terms of biscuits or metal fasteners.
