Mahogany bridge refinishing

We have an outdoor walk bridge that connects our building to the pool area. It was done originally in 8/4 bandsawn mahogany. Over the years it has had some stains added on top that look solid but have since "worn through".

We would like to refinish back to the original finish that we can see underneath which may just be clear or lightly red stained. The wood has all the original band saw marks in it and makes a great non-slip surface.

Questions - Can we have this stripped without sanding out all the texture? Can we go back with a clear or slight stain finish on this wood and keep the non-slip finish? We'd like it to be a matte/natural finish but don't want the wood to turn grey.

If that's possible what product is best? And it's understood we may need to recoat regularly.
