Window Seats - standard depth?

I'm looking to have my carpenter build a custom window seat in a completely open area so I can make it any depth I want, was curious if there are any standard depths people use for window seats, I've seen mention of as narrow as 12 inches up to 18 inches but I'm curious any standards. Thanks!

18" is good, maybe even make it a little deeper if you plan on using a cushion for the back. 12" is a shelf- not good for a seat unless you are building a kindergarten.
