The wood is substandard. Meaning it is either improperly dried, incompletely dried, or has internal stress exposed by milling.

Not much you can do, except buy wood from a real lumber yard to try and get better quality.

HD/Lowe's/Menards/etc. often buy material in huge quantities from multiple sources. They have little control mover quality that way.

The species of wood isn't even speced on some of the material so you never know what you are getting. Yellow pine and fir do well for this type project. Composit deck boards do very well also. If there is a saw mill nearby,ask about airomatic cedar. Around here it's plentiful and cheap.
