| What is the maximum span that a 5/4" Oak tread can cover without the need for a center stringer? I'm looking at a 30" span, stringer to stinger (inside). There will be risers in place, which provide some additional support.
If I can't do it with 5/4 treads, do you think 2-by will work across 30"? Thanks, Kyle |

| Put in a stringer in the middle. Even 5/4 oak is pushing it over more than 24 inches. |

| Typical stair construction here in the northeast is done without center supporting built in for small spans, such as 30" - 32". |
