Natural Oil or Wood finish suggestions.

So I have tried searching the forums and around other places online but so far haven't had much luck with quite the answer I am looking for.

I have been working on a project trying to use as natural products as possible. The closest I can easily describe for what i am making would be something similar to children's wooden play blocks. The project isn't actually for kids but would be handled so does need to be durable. So far the first successful "paint" Ive used is a clay type pigment and linseed oil mixed with it. It seems to have hardened quite well but doesn't hold up to much rubbing or even just a light fingernail scratch, so I am going to need some kind of finish. I have read about real tung oil which sounds like it may be fairly hard once dried. Or Ive heard about using a mix of 1 part beeswax and 3 parts linseed oil or something similar.

Hopefully somebody on here with more woodworking experience than i have knows something that may work for what im looking for.

Thanks for the help!
