I don't have any advice for you.

I went to a class in epoxy finishing earlier this year. It is a very different finish and it could be hard to find someone who can do it well. I have a bespoke furniture maker friend who did an epoxied bar a few years ago. He said, "Never again."

If the top is solid planks with gaps in between, you might have a disaster with epoxy finish as the wood expands and contracts seasonally. If you think the crack looks bad now, what would it look like if the epoxy cracked?

It's like marrying someone and expecting them to change.

If you epoxy this thing, as bobsmyuncle said, it's a freekin' mess.

I suggest you invest in a nice DeWalt portable shop vac and get used to the idea of vacuuming this instead.

This vac, with 5 cats, has changed my life. It's my favorite tool -- after my Kreg pocket hole jig, but that's another story.

I've done a fair amount of work on reclaimed / deconstructed furniture and have similar advice. Fortunately, I've not had to work on one that the owner decided to "put on some poly," and hoped that it provided protection without changing the look. But I have lots of other stories. I have a feeling in less than 10 years most of those owners will be asking, "Just what was I thinking?"
