Adding another color stain will only change a little. Most professionally made cabinets color comes from a recipe of several different colors.

Plus, the wood you have will take stain differently than the twenty year old wood in the cabinets.

That looks more like Golden Oak, but colors between the item/camera/internet are usually very different. Twenty years ago, Golden Oak was a very popular stain for oak.

Problem now is adding Golden Oak will not help. You might try a gel stain(really more of a paint than a stain), but short of getting lucky and finding another stain that amends the current color, buying new pieces and using a small piece to get the color close is probably the only way.

Plus, the finish used can change/alter the stain color. If those cabinets were installed in a new house, they are probably finished with a catalyzed lacquer(factory finish). Your best(cheapest) alternative would be non poly varnish.

Can you show the toekick material next to what you are trying to match?

Also, if it's down there as a toekick, in the shadows ... who can see the color difference?

I was at Lowes today and bought a Minwax color called Gunstock. The sample was orange and the stain itself looked like liquid rust and I thought I would try it over the Early American to see if it would change the tone. I was really lucky and it worked out very well.

It is a much better match and I am happy with it! Marked the cans 1 and 2 so I know the "formula" if I need to stain anything else.
