Help with aging doors...

Posted by anon_girl (My Page) on

We have lovely 6 panel solid wood doors. They are about 25 years old, and have never been taken care of. The sheen is wearing off in spots, and they are just looking old and tired.
What can/should we do to restore them? I'm not to sure that with three little ones we are up for sanding/refinishing them just yet... but is there something a bit less labor intensive that could improve their look?

Thanks!

You don't have to turn it into a full blown refinishing project. Clean the doors with some TSP to get off any dirty. Give them a light sanding with 220 paper just to rough up the surface a bit. Clean off any dust. Apply a varnish or a poly. There are plenty of "easy" finishes to use including wipe on and gel products.
