Pine slab as exterior table

Posted by joeboldt (My Page) on

I've been wanting to build an exterior table. I need something fairly large and had been considering several varieties of wood slabs. The problem I have come up against, is that anything I would consider large enough is pretty expensive. So, I have come across a couple of pine slabs that aren't too costly that I think I can make work. My question is, would pine be a suitable variety of wood for such a purpose?

A lot depends on the glue used.

If it's rated for exterior and you put a protective finish on it. Why not?

Just be aware the slab will split as it ages. Fixing the split will be labor intensive---or expensive.
