Any Tips on Staining Polyurethane Appliques for Headboard?

Posted by moonjewell (My Page) on

My husband has made us a nice high headboard and I want to stain it in a really dark spanish oak gel. I understand the same can be used on non wood and I`m wondering if anyone might have some tips on whether they should be done before putting on the bed or staining the pieces at the same time as the headboard? Also is there a special way to stain these?

Thanks for any info :)

Stain the headboard, stain the appliques, than attach them.

I hope you have extra appliques since they are not going to take stain the same as the wood.

You need some to practice on.
