How to replace leather top on drum table

I have a mahogany drum table with a badly damaged leather top that I would like to restore. The base is in perfect condition, but the leather is not salvageable, and the band of veneer around the top will need to be replaced. The table is not worth much, so I'd like to tackle this myself if it's not too difficult. Could anyone give me some general instructions on how to do this and where to order the leather and veneer?

Van Dyke's Restorers used to have leather for furniture.

Constantine's has veneer, though they are big on rubber cement and pressure sensitive junk.
