I have stained and varnished my new unfinished kitchen cabinets, now I want to wax them. I would love any advise on what kind of wax...sc johnson furniture paste, car wax. Can I get tinted wax for just a little richer color? Do they even make that or can I make it by mixing a little of my stain to the wax? A man at the hardware store suggested putting the wax on with super fine steel wool, does that sound okay? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi,
You can rub out many finishes with wax + 4/0 steel wool: shellac, lacquer and old-fashion oil varnish, but _not_ polyurethane.
I like "butchers wax", but some other brands (johnson) are fine too.
Minwax finishing wax is a waste of time IMO.
Colored waxes are all right for camouflaging small scratches, but do not really darken an existing finish much. Briwax is problematic for large areas especially if the finish is fresh; it contains toluene, which is a potent solvent capable of marring a fresh, semi-cured finish, so beware. The aroma of briwax is killer.
