How could I refresh this old green stained wood cabinet? How to hide the gouges and scratches? I would like to preserve the original stain color and wood texture.The cabinet is very sturdy and in a good structural condition.

The top photo shows the cabinet sitting between two metal filing cabinets. The bottom photo shows the wood texture and surface damage on the top of the cabinet.

Also, any thoughts on how old this cabinet is? My DH inherited this green stained wood cabinet from his late father, who had it in his downtown office for many years. My DH wants to keep the cabinet in his home office.
