sealing the touch-up job on old, jacked up interior doors.

I have no idea what the next step should be (if any) in the accidental restoration of my interior 6 panel doors.

I don't know what kind of wood it is or what the original finish is... I DO know that when I wiped the door down with an oil based Minwax stain, paying extra attention to all of the scratches, dents and dings, it wound up looking fantastic!! It took a while for the stain to dry but it did.

What next? How do I protect my 'new' door?

How about a wipe-on varnish?

So any urethane would be ok? That's where I get confused...urethane, spar urethane, polyurethane, etc.

Not knowing the original finish makes me nervous as I don't want to wipe something on and create a big mess. I remember watching a show where they tested the finish by rubbing both rubbing alcohol and baby oil on the wood to see what happens.

Maybe I'm over-thinking here?
