What should we do?

We were able to salvage these two seats from the torndown fieldhouse of DS and DD alma mater. We'd like to make them into chairs they could use. The bolt holes on the bottom of the seats are 6 3/4" apart. Our thought was to make runners of oak about 18" long on each side. Will this work, or are the legs of the seats just too close together?

A friend of mine got some seats from our old pro stadium and mounted them on a box about 8" high. I think he has three seats so it was about 6-7' long. Painted to match team colors. Alternately, I think you could bolt them the a piece of plywood to give them some stability.
