Table refinish

I bought this dining table and am not sure the best way to go about refinishing it. It is a veneered top. I like the color of the table, but it is quite scratched and dinged.

Here are pictures showing the table and the worst gouge and scratch.

Do I sand the topcoat and reapply?

Is lacquer the most likely finish?

Can I try to steam the gouge?

Do I get a wax stick or try to learn burn-in?

does not look too bad. I would probably just give it a good cleaning, and use a colored paste wax to hide the scratches.
