Paint insides of old cabinets

I'm going to paint the insides of my kitchen cabinets which are old, dark oak. Some of the insides are raw wood and other parts are particle board. There is no finish on any part of the insides.

What process should I use? I assume I will have to prime everything first and then paint.

I'm concerned about paint smells...are there products that are less offensive?

Any advice is appreciated! TIA

What I've done,in this case, is to use acrylic exterior gloss paint. Exterior paint holds up better. Yep, primer first. You might have to apply 3 coats if you're using white.

I would use primer, a coat of any white flat paint that you might have around and then a coat of exterior gloss or semi gloss. Flat paint has better hiding qualities.
