Attaching hardboard to plywood workbench top

I am building a workbench using two 3/4 in. plywood pieces glued together for the top. I want to attach a 1/4 in. hardboard (Masonite type) to the plywood so I will have a smooth surface. I also want to be able to replace the hardboard when it gets too dinged up. How do you suggest I attach the hardboard so that it remains smooth and can be replaced?

Double stick tape---but do not use the carpet type. You can use the thicker foam type and use a piano wire to cut off the old pieces.

Why not self-adhesive velcro? Wonderful stuff.
