Removing paint from a wood floor

I'm new to this website and found it through a search. I hope someone can help.

I removed old carpet from a small bedroom and the floor has paint spots. Someone must have spilled paint on the floor. I bought a palm sander and tried to sand off the spots but I'm not sure what grade sandpaper to use. It came with #120 and #80. The sander took off the old finish but not the paint. I think I need something stronger. It seems to come off better by hand with the same sandpaper. But too much work. Seems to be in the wood. I can't afford to hire anyone and want to tackle this myself. I couldn't manage a big sanding machine.

I would try a paint scraper first or you could try a paint stripper. A paint scraper will work much faster than sandpaper, then you'll just need to sand a little to smooth it all out before repairing the finish. If the finish is damaged beyond repair, you may need to sand the entire floor and refinish it.

If the paint spots are too large or numerous to scrape I would go with a stripper. Ask at your local hardware/paint store for the best product for your situation.

How often are you changing the paper? What kind of palm sander? 80 grit s/b more than enough especially if you are using a good random orbit sander.
