Best Fixative for metal applique

I have a chest that I'm redoing (FYI pic below is NOT the finished chest, it has since been repainted and the holes filled)

As you can see there are raised panels to resemble drawer panels of course they are not actually drawers. I would like to put these iron pieces on the front upper panels, but these pieces do not have any screws etc like a knob or pull would.

What prep do I need to do before attempting to attach them and with what should I use to secure them well? they are pretty heavy so it needs to be something serious

This is not a job for glue. You're going to need to modify the iron pieces, either by drilling nail or screw holes, or by welding studs on the back.
