wood grills for antique secretary

| I'm in the process of refinishing an antique, or possibly just vintage, secretary desk with the bookcase hutch on top. The decorative wood grills that go over the glass in the doors is beyond repair. Does anyone know where I can get new grills? I've been googling, but haven't found a company that sells them. I know that a carpenter can make them, but I thought I would try this first. Thanks for any help you can give me. |

| Not sure what you are looking for, muntins and mullions or a grid pattern? Try Rockler or VanDykes |

| best bet is someone with a scroll saw to cut them out, if they are the style I am thinking of, or maybe this place. http://www.bigbluewindow.com/?gclid=COPC84DZyJ8CFdx05QoddzLazg |

Thank you both for your ideas. I just contacted a furniture maker that makes secretaries, and they recommended a certain laser graphics company. I'll contact them and see if they can do it for me. -Nora |

Most of these I recall are made from 3/16" plywood, in a veneer matching the main casework. If it's important to you to match this, you will probably need to special order that material, as 3/16" walnut or mahogany plywood is not usually stocked. If staining is alright with you, then you can use ordinary birch plywood. Casey |

I had a carpenter make them for me. The original grill insert was flat and I wanted a raised panel. He used the flat one as a template. I then stained the grill to match. |

Instead of contacting the laser company, I called a furniture refinisher not far from me in NJ. Just as lsst said, he'll use my old ones as a template to make new ones. Thank you all. |
