Danish oil was the wrong choice - what now?

Having little experience with refinishing, I sanded down the top of a small table(16 inches diameter)that belonged to my great-grandmother. The surface was damaged and scratched and looked terrible. Knowing that I really didn't know what I was doing, I used Watco Danish Oil in Dark Walnut color according to the directions. The legs of the table are stained a solid color....Watco didn't give a solid color stain and allows the wood grain to show through. The wood grain of the table is not very pretty and I want to use a solid color stain instead. Not wanting to make things worse, I'm looking for advice.

Please help!
