kreg joint questions

Greetings all:

I'm in the planning stage for a bookcase roughly 60" tall by 44" wide. It's not gonna be 'fine furniture' but I do expect it'll be reasonably presentable. It'll be made of 3/4 oak plywood, cut edges covered with molding. I'll be using it to store books, of course, but also several hundred vinyl LP records.

I have done dowel joints in the past, but I'm considering getting a Kreg Joint outfit--probably the Master set.

My question: Can a right angle joint of 3/4 ply to 3/4 ply made with pocket screws work well enough to support heavy stuff? The longest span of any given shelf will be about 14" (there will be two vertical 3/4 ply pieces subdividing the 44" horizontal space). But 14" of LPs or books can be a significant amount of weight.

TIA for any advice from any of you who have experience with the Kreg (or other pocket screw devices, for that matter).
