Prep Procedure for Staining Andersen Gliding Door

I've read the posts relating to what types of stain to use when staining an Andersen Pine Gliding Door. I would like to hear from someone who may have some suggestions on how to prep the door before staining, i.e., taping off the tracks and weather strips. Do I need to stain and varnish the moving part of the door first, then stain and varnish the stationary part of the door next, or do it all at the same time? I've stained french swing doors before -- no problem, but when I began taping and prepping the gliding door, I felt like I bit off more than I can chew.

Also, how do I varnish the bottom of the door between the door and the gutter without glueing the door shut?
