it`s hard to make something less red and not make it darker. esp. soft woods like cedar and fur. ideally you would take a green ultra penetrating stain, thin it with a color reducer and a retarder to slow the drying process. thin the color till it has very little green left. wipe it on with a rag. this process might take a few applications. the idea behind putting such a watery color on, is to gradually work your way back from the red by using green, which neutralizes red. mind you it's a fine line between not enough and too much. if you plan on a clear coat, contact me as there is one more step you should know about.
