220V kitchen outlet

Hi,
I want to hook up a 220V countertop outlet in my kitchen in order to be able to run European/global appliances (yes, I understand that US power is 60Hz vs 50Hz, and other differences).

Anyhow, my kitchen has a 220V range outlet which is unused, since we have a fully gas range, which requires only a 110V outlet. I would like to tie into the 220V outlet (blanking it off if necessary) and run a wire to one of the existing kitchen countertop outlets. I would then remove that 110 outlet and replace it with a NEMA 6-20R 220V outlet, connecting to the new wire that I had just run. I guess I would want to change the range breaker down to 20A.

Does anybody see a flaw in this plan, or does it seem code compliant and safe?
