Celing light installation help with dimmer switch

I am trying to install a ceiling light on a new house that my son bought. The room has a dimmer switch and the ceiling box has four capped wires, 1 black, 1 Red, 1 white and a bare copper wire (ground). The ceiling light has 3 wires, a black, White and bare copper wire (ground). I had a tester and it is telling the red wire on ceiling box is hot. Should I connect the red wire from the box with the black wire of the ceiling light fixture and white to white and ground to ground? What should I do with the black wire from the ceiling box? Leave it unused and capped?
