| I need to temporarily disable one three way switch..cap the wires and place in a box.. and leave the other operable.
If possible how should I treat the wires in the disabled switch? |

| With the power off, natch: One of the three wires connected to the switch is attached to the "common" terminal. If you look closely at the terminal screws, one of them is darker than the other two -- it's deep bronze or black, whereas the other two are of matching colors (typically brass). Once you've identified the common, connect it with a yellow or red wirenut to either (but not both) of the other two wires. That leaves one wire that will be unused. Just cap that one off with a wirenut and you're good to go. In case you may want to re-install the switch some day, it might be a good idea to make up and attach a taped-on label identifying the common. |
