non IC can buried under insulation

We recently bought a 50's vintage house that has a recessed light fixture over the kitchen sink. It has vent slots for cooling but no one thought to make sure it was given wide berth when about 10" of insulation was blown into the attic. The incandescent lamp had turned the fixture into an oven. The diffuser had sagged, discolored, and the internal wiring was very brittle. I removed the insulation from around it, rewired it and installed a cooler running LED lamp.

Just passing this caveat along if you have attic insulated installed in an older home with recessed lighting.
