Attaching cold water pipe to ground rod

I have 6 ground rods for a 400 Amp service. Each rod is 5/8" and 8 ft long. All of them are connected in series to the panel using a single #2 copper wire.

The inspector, while talking to him before I installed the ground rods, told me I also need to bond the cold water line to EGC.

The question is: Can I connect the water pipe directly to one of rods. One of the rods happened to be right next to where the water pipe enters the house. I will use a separate acorn clamp on the rod and a pipe clamp on the water pipe. I will use a separate, short piece of #2 wire.

Anything wrong with this idea?
