240 volt wiring for a spa

I am needing a 50 amp circuit for my new Jaccuzzi spa. I have read that I need to use 6 guage wire for this. Problem is the length of the run for my yard. Over what length can I run the 6 guage before it is too small of a guage? I had a similar situation with my low voltage lighting in the backyard. I was about 200 ft. total and was told to use heavier guage for the first half of the run. My run for the hot tub will be about 150 l.f.

Number six should be fine for 150' at a nominal 40A load.
