No problem with the proximity to the ducting, but they don't seem to be legally supported. There needs to be some staples or such holding them to the surface.

I'd be more concerned about the crappy ducting job.

Hi, I fixed the ducting and had the wires supported. I also wanted the holes around the wires to be plugged up and sealed but was not sure of the right product. I didn't want an expanding foam that could possibly damage the wires and I used this product: 3M
3M Fire Barrier Water Tight Sealant 3000. It's grey and does not dry. You can remove and reshape it like putty. Is it ok to use this? I had wanted it to be insulating but not an expanding foam product and nothing to damage the wires. What do you guys use to seal up holes with wires?

The fire putty will be fine in most circumstances. Even just plane drywall compound will work. If the hole his covered by cabinets or soffits, it's usually not necessary to worry about it all that much.

When the penetrations go through a vapor barrier you'd want to do a good job of sealing. Spray foam won't hurt the wires but will be more or less permanent.
