Most of what I've read suggests that alternators are better than generators in this instance. IIRC, for one, the voltage remains constant.

I might have to check out youtube at home it is blocked here at work. I could use an alternator but I can get the DC motors for free. A 130V dc motor will produce alot of power.

What will you use for a charge controller and how will excess energy be dissipated?

How much power is a lot of power? How much power are you designing for? Do you know what size prop you will need for your design power?
Seems to me that there is quite as lot of thought needs to go into designing a successful wind turbine.

Power out is somewhat less than power in. If you expect to get kilowatts out, you'll need to be putting more kilowatts of wind energy in.
